Historic Erlhof in Pastetten: Restoration starts in 2026!
Christina Zimmerer and her father Matthias are bringing new life to the historic Erlhof in Moosstetten, Pastetten municipality. The building, which has parts dating back to 1759, is a listed building and has a history that dates back to the 15th century. “We want to preserve the flair of this beautiful old building while giving it modern amenities,” says Christina, who is looking forward to moving in in 2028.
However, the comprehensive restoration represents a major challenge. The roof structure of the Erlhof is in great need of renovation and is already showing water damage. The plan is to build a new roof structure over the old one because the structure is no longer stable. For the extensive work that is scheduled to begin in spring 2026, Christina can draw on her expertise as a master painter and gilder. “I have a good knack for a lot of the work that needs to be done,” she explains.
Support through funding
In order to secure the financial resources for the restoration, the Zimmerer family has applied for several grants. So far, however, there have been no firm commitments from the responsible authorities. In addition to 10,000 euros from the municipality of Pastetten, funding is also required from several institutions to cover the total costs of around 475,000 euros for the first phase of the work. The Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation offers support here, as it provides financial subsidies for the preservation, protection and restoration of monuments that are not state-owned. These programs are aimed at private individuals, municipalities and churches, whereby the decision on funding is made at discretion and there is no legal entitlement.
As the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation As explained, important prerequisites for submitting an application are that the construction work has not yet begun and all the necessary permits have been obtained. The applications must also be coordinated with the lower monument protection authority. This also applies to the necessary conditions for applying for funding, as stated on financial-foerdermittel.de be described.
A legacy for the future
However, the challenges associated with restoration should not be overlooked. Historic buildings are often part of our cultural heritage and shape the cityscape in many ways. The maintenance of such structures is often costly, and yet funding is crucial to finance the necessary maintenance and restoration measures. Such measures not only ensure the preservation of the historical heritage, but also strengthen local identity and promote tourism.
The Zimmerer family is determined to make a significant contribution to the region's cultural heritage with their project. When the previous work starts and the funding becomes available, the Erlhof will hopefully soon shine again in its former glory and be preserved for future generations.
