Attention energy explorers: MINT afternoon in the Erlangen City Museum!

There will soon be an exciting event on the program in Erlangen that will not only be a highlight for children. On Wednesday, July 9, 2025, the Erlangen City Museum in the museum courtyard will be transformed into an arena for young explorers and researchers. From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., the little ones can look forward to a children's afternoon on the topic of energy. Admission is free and the event is aimed at children of preschool and primary school age and their accompanying adults. Under the motto “With energy into the future”, the city museum, together with the IHK Nuremberg for Middle Franconia, the Nuremberg Children's Museum and the TechNat association, invites you to explore the world of energy in a playful way.

The program is varied and includes a number of creative and exciting experiments. The children can experience, for example, how muscle power can be used to drive a blender or how energy can be obtained from lemons and potatoes. Another highlight will be the production of biogas from fruit and vegetable residues. The climate scale, which makes it possible to measure greenhouse gases in everyday life, will also be presented. Despite the seriousness of the topic, the fun shouldn't be neglected: creative activities such as painting, crafting and building Lego round off the diverse offering, while short tours of the museum explain the way of life without electricity. The goal will be not only to impart knowledge to the children, but also to encourage their desire to discover and develop visions for the future around the topic of energy. As Wiesentbote reports, we can look forward to the reactions of the young participants!

A look at STEM and green energy

The event in Erlangen is part of a larger initiative that focuses on STEM education. MINT stands for mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology. These areas play a crucial role in getting children excited about technical and scientific topics at an early age - a necessity when we think about the economic future. Talented young minds are supported through various programs, such as the House of Little Researchers or competitions such as Jugend forscht. According to Kinder MINT Education, MINT education is essential for the development of cognitive, emotional and social skills in children.

Another aspect that is increasingly becoming the focus of MINT initiatives is the responsible use of energy. For example, the “Energy – what moves us” project highlights the topic of environmentally friendly energy sources. Children up to 12 years old explore how boats can be moved using sustainable energy sources. The aim of these programs is to promote the use of renewable energies and thus contribute to reducing climate change. As Umweltbildung Reinickendorf makes clear, the children learn in a creative way to understand the physical concepts of energy transfer.

The event in the Erlangen City Museum is not only an entertaining event for children, but also an important step towards a more conscious approach to the future of energy. The varied program is intended to arouse curiosity as well as impart practical skills. It becomes clear: MINT education is not only important for the personal development of children, but also for the social and economic future of our world.
