Dumpling Festival in Viehbach: 15 variations delight 500 visitors!

In the picturesque Freising district, the village of Viehbach celebrated its annual dumpling festival on July 15, 2025, which has become a real crowd puller. Originally planned as a family event, this year's festival attracted around 500 visitors, and the organizers even had to set up additional tables and benches to accommodate demand. Annemarie Schlittenlacher, one of the hard-working helpers, spoke about the preparation of the dumplings, which she aptly described as “real back-breaking work”.

The guests were able to look forward to a real land of milk and honey: a total of 15 different types of dumplings, including some exotic specialties, were served. The classics included potato, cheese press, bacon and spinach dumplings as well as the sweet apricot dumplings, which put a smile on the faces of those with a sweet tooth among the festival visitors. Particular highlights were the 230 Silesian potato dumplings prepared by Ilona Kosmider, which had a characteristic hollow for the gravy. The Asian touch was also not neglected: Karsten Luther offered sticky rice dumplings, which are traditionally eaten at the Chinese Lantern Festival. Bettina Deger set a special tone with her salami dumplings and beetroot dumplings, served with horseradish sauce and Parmesan.

A celebration of community

The feedback from guests was consistently positive. Many visitors not only praised the delicious dumplings, but also the feeling of togetherness that the festival exuded. For a dumpling ticket, which was available for 15 euros, guests could try six different courses. At the end of the day, around 2,400 dumplings were consumed by around 350 hungry guests, showing that the love of good food and community is very important. The proceeds from the festival are also donated to a good cause, which makes the festival even more valuable.

In the midst of all the delicious hustle and bustle, you shouldn't forget that diversity in Freising is not only celebrated at the dumpling festival. This year's “Tenth of a Second”, which will take place from June 27th to July 18th, 2025, is also based on this spirit. After the successful premiere in 2022, the focus is on the motto “Time for diversity in Freising”. Workshops, concerts, film screenings and numerous other formats are waiting to be discovered by local people. Over 50 initiatives, clubs and groups support this exciting program.

Experience diversity

The “tenth of a second” will be launched on June 27th with an opening on Marienplatz and promises to offer the city a colorful supporting program from readings to culinary delicacies to interactive formats. A special highlight will be the intercultural festival of encounters on June 29th in Eckherpark, where people can come together and experience diversity from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. On seven evenings, films that deal with the topic of diversity will be shown in the “Lichtspielhof” in the city library - admission is free!
