Bavaria celebrates music culture: State exhibition starts in Freyung in 2026!
On April 25, 2026 the time has come: the first Bavarian state exhibition dedicated entirely to music opens its doors in Freyung in the Bavarian Forest. Under the title “Music in Bavaria”, this multi-faceted exhibition will make Bavarian music culture tangible for all age groups. The term extends until November 8, 2026 and promises an exciting journey of discovery through a variety of musical traditions and genres. The pnr.de reports that the event will take place in the so-called “TonYversum”, a listed building in the heart of Freyung.
The exhibition is not only a celebration of music, but also an experience for the senses. Visitors will have the opportunity to admire famous and lesser-known musical objects and even enjoy interactive elements that allow them to try out instruments or practice dance steps. In addition, guests can expect daily live acts spread across Freyung and the surrounding area, including concerts in churches and outdoors, which is why the nature of the Bavarian Forest becomes part of the overall experience. The hdbg.de highlights that the opening will begin with a film in the Stadtplatzcenter multiplex and a sound bridge will lead to the stage show “Music in Bavaria with all the senses”.
A look back at Bavarian music history
The aim of the exhibition is to address Bavarian music history from its beginnings to the present and to show the diversity of musical styles. Arts and Science Minister Markus Blume emphasizes the importance of this show, as it will push clichés, such as the excessive cliché of yodeling and brass music, into the background and present Bavarian music in all its facets. The stmwk.bayern.de describes that there will be a musical journey through time from the Middle Ages to the present day, which will allow visitors to immerse themselves in the world of music in an entertaining way.
Mayor Olaf Heinrich welcomes the event and emphasizes the importance of music as a cultural element for the region. This exhibition is also a sign that the state exhibition is returning to Lower Bavaria after ten years - the last one took place in Aldersbach in 2016 with the theme “Beer in Bavaria”. After the exhibition has ended, it is planned to set up a science center in the Pröbstl House that will deal with the topics of sound, sound, music and hearing, thereby establishing a long-term place for education and entertainment.
It will be interesting to see how Freyung and the surrounding communities prepare for the big event. If you love music and are in the area, don't miss the opportunity to visit this unique exhibition!
