Citizens' Forum in Eppenschlag: Lecture by the mayor on Friday!
The citizens of Eppenschlag can look forward to an exciting meeting! On Friday, October 31st, at 6 p.m., everyone interested is invited to the country inn “Zum Obern Wirt”. Mayor Peter Schmid will report on site about current activities, finances and expenses. This ensures that citizens know exactly where the common funds are going. Following the report, citizens' voices are called for: inquiries, requests and requests to the administrative teams are expressly welcome.
It is particularly important that citizens who wish to speak out or have specific requests submit their concerns in writing to the Schönberg administrative community by Thursday at 12 p.m. This enables a structured discussion and ensures that detailed questions can be clarified during the meeting. The aim is to promote exchange between citizens and the administration and enable engagement.
Social media and citizen communication
Interestingly, social media is increasingly playing a role in the dialogue between citizens and political institutions. The hybrid media system of which the bpb reports, allows everyone to communicate directly, without the filters of traditional mass media. This is also reflected in the growing use of platforms such as YouTube, where political messages are conveyed in increasingly creative forms. YouTube, as one of the largest social platforms, has over 2.7 billion active users in January 2024 alone, consuming more than a billion hours of video content every day.
More and more German citizens are following their news via social media. In 2022, 16% said that they use YouTube in particular for their information. This shows that digital channels are essential not only for entertainment, but also for political communication.
Political communication in the digital age
Political parties are increasingly using social media to reach younger voters. Interactive formats like them from the bpb are particularly in demand. Direct dialogue via social media offers new parties and outsider politicians the opportunity to show their presence cost-effectively. Greater flexibility in addressing and the ability to respond immediately to issues are also essential in today's political landscape.
However, digital communication also brings with it challenges, such as dealing with data protection and possible negative effects on opinion formation. Social media can both increase visibility and lead to polarization, which should not be underestimated. Both citizens and politicians are required to use the new means of communication responsibly.
In Eppenschlag, the citizens' assembly has the potential to address these issues while at the same time taking into account the concerns and concerns of citizens. So it will be exciting to see how the event on October 31st will go and what requests and ideas will come to the table. So if you want to help shape it, you shouldn't hesitate and get your say in good time!
