Christkindlmarkt Garmisch-Partenkirchen: New location and longer opening hours!

In Garmisch-Partenkirchen there will be some changes to the traditional Christmas market in 2025. Instead of the usual location at Richard-Strauss-Platz, the market will now take place in the Michael-Ende-Kurpark. Organizers Gabi Hoffmann and Martin Pirner from the Garmischer Zentrum advertising association made this decision and describe the move as a “pilot experiment”. The market is planned from November 21st to January 4th and will therefore be open to visitors for a total of six weeks. Loud Mercury GaPa Tourismus and SC Riessersee have also pledged their support.

The Christmas market will not only find a new home in the spa park, but will also be combined with the “Winter in the Park” event. An ice surface measuring 15 by 20 meters will be set up, which can be used for ice skating and curling. SC Riessersee takes responsibility for the ice rink and offers rentals for Christmas parties and school classes. This could be a wonderful opportunity not only to enjoy the winter atmosphere, but also to spend some social time with friends or colleagues.

Traditions and innovations

However, not everything has changed: traditional activities such as the boot campaign, the wishing tree as well as musical performances and face painting remain in the program. Even after the holidays, visitors can look forward to atmospheric concerts in the spa park, where artists such as Fenzl, Gamskult and Lenze and de Buam will perform. The lighting in the spa park is designed uniformly to leave an inviting impression and to brightly illuminate the entrance.

Another advantage of moving to the spa park is the improved security situation. No bollards or barriers are necessary here, which makes accessibility easier for visitors. An additional attraction is the Hüttenzauber, which will take place from December 27th to January 4th at the church square in Partenkirchen. Here guests can expect stalls and musical entertainment.

A festive nativity scene

And Garmisch-Partenkirchen is planning another attraction: between the first Advent and Epiphany, Ludwigstrasse will be transformed into an atmospheric nativity scene. This is the perfect setting to spread some festive cheer in the city and enjoy the Christmas season to the fullest.

If you want to make your way to one of the widely popular Christmas markets, it's also worth taking a look at the opening times in other regions, for example in Virginia, where the markets are open until December 2024. Many cities now offer a variety of markets, which often showcase local specialties and crafts. Information about Virginia markets can be found at Christmas Market Guides be retrieved.

In summary, the citizens and visitors of Garmisch-Partenkirchen expect a lively and festive program at the 2025 Christmas market in the Kurpark. With a successful combination of tradition and innovation, this could become a special experience and make winter in Garmisch-Partenkirchen something very special.
