Security warning: military exercise in the Oberreintal – citizens beware!

In an important announcement, the Garmisch-Partenkirchen District Office the upcoming combat training at the mountain and winter combat school in Mittenwald was presented. This special training will take place from October 21st to 23rd, 2025 in the picturesque Oberreintal and deals intensively with use in rough terrain and extreme conditions. An innovative aspect of the training is the use of a drone, which teaches soldiers new skills. If necessary, a SAR helicopter will also be available to ensure the rescue chain.

An important concern of the authorities is to make the population aware of the exercises. It is strongly recommended that you stay away from the training troops' facilities to avoid possible dangers. In particular, attention is drawn to the danger of military explosives left behind. If such items are discovered, citizens should contact the police immediately.

Information about the SAR service

In a broader context is the SAR service important for aircraft in Germany. This service is carried out by the Bundeswehr and is active on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. An important point here is that the Federal Ministry has delegated responsibility for this to the Federal Ministry of Defense. The tasks of the SAR service include, among other things, search and rescue measures in the event of maritime emergencies, for which the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked Persons is responsible.

The SAR operations are divided into two main areas: the “Lake” SAR area in Glücksburg and the “Land” SAR area in Münster. Each of these areas has its own operations management and is equipped with the corresponding SAR commands, which have specialized helicopters. For the “Land” SAR area, the forces have three commands at their disposal that are operational around the clock, which means a significantly expanded scope for action in emergencies.

Technical equipment and cooperation

The army's SAR helicopters are equipped with medical equipment and are of a high standard, even if they do not quite meet the standards of the civilian rescue services. A major technological advance was the introduction of the H145 LUH SAR helicopters, which replaced the older Bell UH-1D helicopters. This modern fleet makes operations more efficient and effective.

Cooperation with other organizations such as the police, fire brigade and the German Red Cross is also crucial. They are all ready to offer their support in an emergency, be it in raising an alarm or coordinating operations. Such measures are of fundamental importance to ensure the safety of the population and to be able to respond quickly to emergencies.

The offer for citizens is also available: If you have any questions or complaints regarding the operations of military helicopters, a free citizens' telephone number is set up on 0800 - 8620730. Concerns can be reached there directly Monday to Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday until 12:30 p.m.
