Tereza Nova: Fundraising campaign started for the combative skier!

The Czech ski racer Tereza Nova has lived through tragic times. On January 24, 2025, she suffered a serious fall during the final training for the downhill in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, which fundamentally changed her life. After weeks of treatment in an induced coma, in which she lay on January 31, 2025, she woke up and discovered that she was now in a wheelchair because she had severe paralysis on the left side of her body. She is also struggling with the consequences of a traumatic brain injury, a cerebral hemorrhage, an injury to the carotid artery and a fracture of the eye socket. These injuries have made the healing process one of the most challenging “races” of her life, as her mother describes it.

After returning home, Tereza Nova is currently undergoing rehabilitation. This costs a lot of money and the situation is getting worse: from September 2025 it will no longer receive state support. During this difficult time, the Czech Ski Association has set up a donation account to help Nova finance her expensive rehabilitation. To support this appeal for donations, five percent of the ticket proceeds from the upcoming World Cup races in Špindlerův Mlýn will also go to Nova's rehabilitation fund. As watson.ch reports, other athletes are also supporting this call on social media in order to reach as many people as possible.

The way back to life

Despite the serious injuries, Tereza Nova remains optimistic and fighting. She has already had several operations, which are seen as important milestones in her healing process. But the return to top-level sport is still uncertain. At the end of the day, rehabilitation is more than just a challenge for them - it is the key to their old life. Nova works hard to make progress and her motivation remains unwavering, even when the road is rocky.

In the background, we are also working on a project that examines the effects of psychological components on the rehabilitation process. A feasibility study will develop interventions that help patients find their inner strength and promote social support. This study could provide valuable insights into how athletes like Tereza Nova can work more effectively towards their recovery, which is also important for rehabilitation in high-performance sports, as bisp-surf.de informs.

If you would like to support Tereza Nova, you can find the donation link on the Czech Ski Association website. Every donation, no matter how small, can make a difference and help ensure this talented athlete receives the resources she needs for her rehabilitation.
