Eisbären Burgau in the performance test: Is the turning point against Peißenberg coming?

The ice hockey autumn brings exciting but also challenging days for the Eisbären Burgau. After a bumpy start to the season with five defeats, the Eisbären will be challenged to prove their skills on October 31, 2025. There are two exciting matches on the program in the Bayernliga, which is currently considered the strongest amateur league in Bavaria. On Friday evening at 8 p.m. the Eisbären will host the Peißenberg Miners for their home game, while on Sunday the away game against the Devils Ulm/Neu-Ulm is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. According to [Augsburger Allgemeine](https://www.augsburger- Allgemeine.de/guenzburg/sport/eishockey-diese-bayernliga-ist-so-stark-wie-noch-nie-112689441), the polar bears are required to show a similar performance to their last home game against the Schweinfurt Mighty Dogs. The fans are hoping for the return of Petr Ceslik, who was missing for personal reasons.

However, the personnel situation in the team is tense. Captain David Heinrich is out due to private matters and Lukas Häckelsmiller also has to miss the game due to injury. David Zachar was unable to attend all training sessions due to a cold, but is expected to be able to play. The departure of Felix Holzapfel also creates additional uncertainty in the squad. The polar bears in particular have to look behind the scenes in order to bring the necessary power onto the ice.

The challenge of the Peißenberg Miners

The Peißenberg Miners have also shown a mixed picture this season, with three defeats and two wins so far. New additions such as goalkeeper Joshua Baron and striker Korbinian Hopper from the Tölzer Löwen as well as Weiland Parrish from the USA are crucial reinforcements. Parrish is the Miners' top scorer with five goals and four assists in five games. It will be exciting to see whether the Polar Bears can crack the Miners' defense and improve compared to previous games. Ice hockey department head Heinzi Heinrich notes that the league is very strong and mistakes are punished immediately. The challenges cannot be underestimated, even if the Polar Bears can build on the work they did against the Mighty Dogs.

It is particularly important to know that there is no box office available for the home game against the Peißenberg Miners. ESV fans can enter the hall from 6:45 p.m. Tickets for the away game in Neu-Ulm are also recommended in advance via the Devils ticket shop, as no tickets are available on site.

Current status in the Bayernliga

The Bavarian Ice Hockey League, organized by the Bavarian Ice Hockey Association, currently has 16 teams fighting for the championship title. This league is considered the fourth highest ice hockey league in Germany, and the season brings a variety of exciting duels. The best eight teams and the four worst teams in the Oberliga Süd take part in an interlocking round. If you take a look at the last two years, the EHC Waldkraiburg stands out, which was able to win the championship and is therefore at the top of the all-time list.

It remains to be seen whether the Eisbären Burgau can develop the necessary competitiveness from their initial phase to continue to assert themselves in the fight for the championship title. The next games are coming up, the pressure is growing and there is great hope for improvement. The Polar Bears have the opportunity to show that they can do more than previous results suggest.
