On January 18, 2026, visitors to the Coburg Natural History Museum can expect an exciting experience: the lecture “Brazil: Jungle on the Atlantic, wild and tamed water, gardens for citizens”. At 3 p.m. Friedhelm Haun, a native of Coburg with a passion for the Brazilian Atlantic coast, will share his knowledge with the listeners. The focus here is on the lesser-known Mata Atlantica, which exudes its own charm compared to the famous Amazon. Listeners can look forward to impressive descriptions of the watercourses that develop from the jungle and form powerful streams. Haun will also provide insights into gardens for citizens that were designed as recreational spaces in nature. Entry costs six euros, entry is free for children.

The Coburg Natural History Museum, located in the heart of Coburg, Upper Franconia, has a long history. It was founded on the passion for collecting of the Coburg dukes, especially Duke Ernst II and Albert, the prince consort of Queen Victoria. In 1844 the museum opened its doors to the public under the name “Ducal Art and Natural History Cabinet”. Since then it has experienced a lot and moved several times, most recently to the Veste Coburg. The impressive new building, which opened in 1914, impresses with its architectural design and a total area of 4,800 square meters - of which 2,400 square meters is exhibition space, which is regularly used for special exhibitions.

A space for the latest discoveries

The museum is not only a place for those interested in nature and art, but also a space for education and relaxation. It offers guided tours for children by trained staff that cover exciting subject areas with pictures and models. There is also a bee display case in the museum that illustrates the importance of bees and their habitats. The secret basement area also contains an archive of collectibles and minerals waiting to be discovered.

The museum's past is also reflected in a number of notable special exhibitions, including topics such as "Biodiversity in Duckburg" and "Dogs.People!".
