Next weekend, the ERC Ingolstadt women's ice hockey team will face an exciting challenge when they face Euro Cup winners HK Budapest. After a week without games, we hit the ice on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday at 12:15 p.m. These matches are particularly important as the ERC has slipped from first place to third place in the table. Now the team wants to do everything it can to collect points again in order to secure their chances of participating in the play-offs.
The situation in the league is tense. The new league leader is Berlin with 20 points, followed by Memmingen, which is also doing well with 15 points. Ingolstadt has the same number of points but could improve with good performances in Budapest. The Hungarians are currently in the starting blocks with 10 points after suffering two defeats in their last games against Eisbären Juniors Berlin (1:4 and 1:6). Coach Christian Sohlmann therefore expects a motivated opponent who wants to make amends in the home stadium. “In Budapest the defense often leaves a lot of space and we can take advantage of that,” said Sohlmann.
Injuries and challenges
The long journey to Budapest represents an additional challenge for the team, especially as the squad is reduced due to injuries. While Sarah Kubiczek is still out, Chanel Hofverberg was able to get back on the ice after an injury. Sohlmann plans to play with a maximum of three lines, which presents the team with additional tactical challenges. The coach also expects a higher number of shorthanded games because he expects Hungarian referees.
Despite these adversities, the signs are good for an exciting game week. The opportunity to win points is crucial for the ERC to fight its way up the table.
Play-off qualification and attendance record
With the play-off phase starting on March 8th, the teams face crucial weeks. For Ingolstadt it is not only important to score points at the weekend, but also to put together a strong team in the long term in order to be competitive in the play-offs.
