Ingolstadt triumphs 6-2 against Salzburg – quarter-finals in sight!

In the first leg of the round of 16 of the Champions Hockey League (CHL), ERC Ingolstadt achieved an impressive win against Red Bull Salzburg. With a clear final score of 6:2, the hosts prevailed in the home arena on November 12, 2025 and now have all the trump cards to reach the quarter-finals. The Ingolstadt team were in impressive form and were able to convince in this game after a strong performance.

The game started with a furious start, with Riley Barber nailing the first goal in the 6th minute. Ingolstadt used its opportunities cleverly and presented Salzburg with major challenges. After the first third it was already 3-1 for the hosts, as Barber scored further goals in the 35th minute and Philipp Krauß in the 15th minute.

Dominance of the hosts

The Ingolstadt team continued their run with another goal in the 16th minute by Myles Powell. Despite a brief rebellion from Salzburg, which was able to reduce the deficit through Tyler Lewington in the 14th minute and Lukas Hörl in the 43rd minute, Ingolstadt remained the dominant factor in the game. Krauß put together the final package with his second goal in the 44th minute.

The team of head coach Mark French, who was recently part of the German national team that won the Germany Cup, appears to have gone into this duel with a boost of confidence. “Our goal is to reach the quarter-finals,” emphasized French after the game. Ingolstadt scored an impressive 29 goals in four matches before the international break and impressively demonstrated that their form curve is correct.

Salzburg under pressure

On the other hand, Salzburg, which recently suffered three defeats in a row in the win2day ICE Hockey League and only finished 11th in the league phase, is clearly at a disadvantage. Even though they are in sixth place in the ICE Hockey League, their ambitions on the international stage are in serious jeopardy. The second leg in Salzburg will be a crucial test for the Austrians in order not to lose sight of the goal of the quarter-finals.

The second leg will be broadcast on MagentaSport on November 19th at 7:15 p.m. The fans can be curious to see whether Salzburg can fight back or whether Ingolstadt will finally win. The CHL final is scheduled for next March and promises to be an exciting final - perhaps with Ingolstadt as the protagonist.

The question remains for all ice hockey fans: Can Salzburg get back to winning ways in the league and at international level? Only the coming games will show.
