In Riedenburg, in the Kelheim district, a robbery at the Lima gas station occurred on Friday evening, which caused a stir. A masked man entered the gas station and threatened the 56-year-old cashier with a knife while demanding cash. Loud Central Bavarian The perpetrator stole a low three-digit amount in euros as well as two packets of tobacco and cigarette paper.

The incident occurred on August 8, 2025 and almost had a worse ending when a customer who was present tried to pursue the perpetrator. However, this pursuit was broken off when the attacker was threatened with a knife. The perpetrator fled on foot towards the city arch, while the police immediately launched a large-scale manhunt.

Arrest and pre-trial detention

Like the police reported, a targeted check the following day led to the arrest of a 52-year-old man from the Eichstätt district who matched the description of the perpetrator. At the request of the Regensburg public prosecutor's office, an arrest warrant was issued for serious predatory extortion. The suspect was transferred to a correctional facility after his presentation at the Regensburg district court.

The incidents at gas stations are a topic that continues to stir people's minds. Despite a decline in gas station robberies across society, as the 2024 police crime statistics show, the feeling of insecurity remains. Causes and social perception

One of the exciting phenomena is that “perceived crime” is often higher than real crime. Experts speculate on the reasons for the decline in robberies, while there are still no significant changes to security concepts in the industry. Media reports about falling cash register sales and secure cash register systems could be partly responsible for the decrease in robberies, as break-ins into occupied gas stations are increasingly occurring, which attract completely different perpetrators.

At a time when it seems like crime is on the rise everywhere, this incident shows that there are still people who go overboard. The quick arrest of the suspect gives hope that unsafe nights at gas stations will soon be a thing of the past - as the good old saying goes: "Nothing ventured, nothing gained" doesn't quite apply here. Citizen safety should always be the top priority.
