Drunk driver causes serious accident near Ludwigschorgast: one injured!

A 47-year-old woman from Kulmbach was injured in a dangerous traffic accident yesterday evening at the junction of the B289/303 near Ludwigschorgast. According to the report by Bayreuther Tagblatt The incident occurred around 5 p.m. when a 52-year-old man from Kupferberg wanted to turn left in his sprinter towards Himmelkron and overlooked the woman's approaching Skoda. The collision between the two vehicles resulted in significant material damage of around 30,000 euros and both cars had to be towed away.

The driver of the Skoda suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The federal highway was closed for around two hours due to the rescue work and the debris on the road, which led to significant traffic delays. The fire brigades from Ludwigschorgast, Neuenmarkt, Kupferberg and Untersteinach were deployed to secure the street and carry out the clean-up work.

Alcohol influence as a cause

An alcohol test on the sprinter driver showed a level of 2.5 per mille. This led to a blood sample being taken and an investigation was initiated against the man for endangering road traffic and negligent bodily harm. The legal framework is clear: accidents under the influence of alcohol are considered criminal offenses in Germany Catalog of fines clarified. Legal consequences can arise from an alcohol content of just 0.3 per mille.

In 2015, there were over 305,000 accidents with personal injuries in Germany, with 9,170 of these accidents being caused by drunk driving. The general legal sanctions in the event of an accident include not only fines, but also points in Flensburg and possible driving license revocation.

A look at the consequences

The legal consequences for someone who causes an accident under the influence of alcohol are criminal and include sanctions such as the revocation of the driving license for a minimum of six months to a maximum of five years as well as the ordering of a medical-psychological examination (MPU), usually from 1.6 per mille, but also at lower levels if an accident has been caused. The ability to react is severely impaired and the risk of an accident increases significantly.

This incident in Ludwigschorgast is another example of how drunk driving can have serious consequences for all road users. The high number of accidents in the past makes it clear that the responsible use of alcohol and driving in traffic are not compatible.
