Main confluence in Kulmbach: New hotspot created for tourists!
Something is happening in Kulmbach! The Main confluence, a truly magical place, invites you. The Kulmbacher Land attracts numerous day trippers, especially during the holiday season. The confluence of the Main near Steinenhausen has become a popular destination for hikers and cyclists. Mayor Ingo Lehmann describes this place as a real top excursion destination, and there are reasons for that.
Klemens Angermann, managing director of the Kulmbacher Land Local Action Group, emphasizes how wonderfully culture, nature, enjoyment and experience intertwine here. Thanks to the EU funding program LEADER, the “Experience Main Confluence” project was able to be realized, which sets innovative accents and further increases the attractiveness of this region.
Experience for all senses
The city of Kulmbach's building yard has prepared the area for summer 2025. Display boards provide valuable information about the Main and the Main cycle path as well as the habitat of the river floodplain. Seating groups invite you to unwind. A boat that symbolizes the union of the two arms of the river creates a special atmosphere and underlines the importance of the place.
A special highlight is the geodetic reference point at the confluence of the Main. This point is not only interesting for hobby navigators, but also offers precise positioning for GPS devices. It is also open to the public, which makes it a very special attraction in the region.
Funding for the region
The investments in these tourism developments find their place in a larger context: The Funding database for federal, state and EU shows numerous opportunities for start-ups and innovative projects. A lot has been done to strengthen rural areas, especially since the introduction of the second pillar of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) in 2000. With projects like this, Kulmbach can not only increase its attractiveness, but also promote sustainable development.
The Federal Government pursues the clear goal of strengthening rural regions as independent living and economic areas. Various EU, federal and state funding instruments support these efforts. Broadband expansion is a central element in creating equal living conditions, including in rural areas.
In summary, it can be said: The confluence of the Main is not only a place of natural idyll and relaxation, but also a prime example of how targeted investments and funding can revitalize our rural regions. Kulmbach, tackle it!
