The first moments of happiness of the year were celebrated in the city's clinics, including the renowned Augsburg University Hospital and the KJF Klinik Josefinum. The first New Year's baby, Leonie Magdalena, was born at 3:50 a.m., while Elschaday Tekle was born at 3:18 a.m. in the university clinic, as TrendyOne reports.
Leonie Magdalena, who was born at the KJF Clinic Josefinium, weighs 3,460 grams and measures 51 centimeters. Her parents, Cornelia and Norbert Augustin, from Aichach, already have a three-year-old daughter who can look forward to her little sister. New Year's babies at the University Hospital
A similarly festive picture emerged at the Augsburg University Hospital. In addition to Elschaday Tekle, who was born at 3:18 a.m., another girl followed at 5:25 a.m. by caesarean section and a boy was born at 8:37 a.m. - the first three New Year's babies in the house. An exciting day that will bring many more joyful moments for the families.
In 2025, the university hospital recorded a total of 2,427 births, including 2,372 singletons, 54 twin births and one triplet birth. A total of 2,483 children were born: 1,216 girls and 1,267 boys. Prof. Dr. med. Christian Dannecker, director of the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics, highlighted the symbolic role of New Year's babies and emphasized how important every birth is for the future.

These newly born children are in the context of an important statistic. According to data from the Federal Statistical Office, there is an overall stable birth trend in Germany, even if the birth rate varies. The current maintenance level, i.e. the number of children needed to replace the generations, is 2.07 children per woman.
