Volunteering in splendour: the Landshut fire brigade's Christmas party inspires!

Last Saturday, the Landshut Volunteer Fire Department celebrated an atmospheric Christmas party in the town hall and the main fire station hall. Numerous guests of honor from politics, business and various aid organizations came together to honor this special time. The Irish folk band Landshut Tullamore Few provided an unforgettable musical accompaniment during the celebration.

First chairman Andreas Kei opened the event with a warm welcome. The subsequent Christmas story by Daniel Koppauer was particularly entertaining and made the guests smile. In his Christmas speech, Kei emphasized the immense importance of volunteer firefighters, who make up 95% of the firefighters in Germany. He emphasized the value of children's and youth fire departments and addressed the increasing demands in operations and technical equipment.

Challenges and respect for the emergency services

“The fire department will sort it out” — Andreas Kei wanted to counteract this obviousness by denouncing disrespect towards the emergency services. City Fire Commissioner Sebastian Öllerer also found clear words when he described service in the volunteer fire department as attractive and praised the positive influence on the personal development of the active members. His thanks went not only to his fellow firefighters, but also to the aid organizations that work closely together.

The Christmas party was also an occasion for honors and promotions, which were presented by various officials. Dominik Neß and Milton da Silva Monteiro were awarded the Lower Bavarian Fire Department Cross of Honor in silver for their special services. In addition, numerous members received sleeve stripes for 10, 20, 25, 30 and even 40 years of active service. Simon Kolbeck was retired, which also represents a significant change in the Landshut fire department.

Missions at Christmas: Dedicated paramedics in action

Other aid organizations show a similar commitment, such as the Malteser, who are in action at Christmas. Taylan, a 26-year-old paramedic, works as a volunteer despite coming from a Muslim household and not celebrating Christmas. He observes the festive mood and the effort that many people put into the holidays. Such missions during the holidays are particularly challenging due to the presence of many relatives. Taylan and his colleague Jonas report on emergencies that can cause additional stress for those affected at Christmas, for example in the case of nursing cases that are often taken to hospital even though there is no medical indication.

This holiday effort highlights the challenges that emergency services face and shows how much passion and dedication goes into this work. The Christmas period is not only characterized by tradition and celebration for the fire brigade and rescue services, but also by the memory of the people who rely on their support in emergency situations.

Overall, the celebration ended in a cozy setting in the hall of the main fire station, and everyone present was able to enjoy the festive atmosphere, which reflected both gratitude and solidarity among the emergency services.

For the Landshut Fire Department and all the volunteers who work tirelessly for the well-being of their fellow human beings, the Christmas season remains a special time of gathering and mutual appreciation.
