Sustainability in focus: Climate managers reveal future plans in Dingolfing!
An exciting event took place at Landshut University on July 10, 2025Guest lecture as part of the “Sustainable Industrial Operations and Business” (SIOB) degree programinstead of. The focus was on the topicSustainability in public administration, and the demonstration attracted great interest from the students. The speakers were two experienced climate protection managers, Stefan Salzinger and Katrin Riedmayr, who presented the city of Dingolfing's current measures. They provided a comprehensive overview of municipal heat planning and the collection of energy consumption data, which is essential for efficient planning.
The lecture also highlighted approaches tosustainable and climate-resilient urban development. An important part was the development of climate protection management at the district level, which has been driving forward the achievement of the goal of CO2 neutrality since 2022. Measures in several fields of action were analyzed, such as renewable energies, mobility and the use of private households and properties. The students gained valuable insights into the challenge of concretely implementing climate-friendly strategies.
Practical insights through excursions
A special highlight of the event was theExcursion to the district's new student dormitory, which was built by LiWooD AG using an innovative modular wooden construction method. The impressive building, raised above parking areas, includes numerous environmentally friendly features such as agreen roof terraceand solar panels. This excursion not only offered the students the opportunity to experience what they had learned theoretically in practice, but also to promote the exchange of ideas and experiences.
The event also highlighted the collaboration between Landshut University of Applied Sciences, the TZ PULS technology center and the municipalities in order to...Sustainability goalsto be implemented successfully. This makes clear the importance of municipal structures that enable direct contact with citizens, business and social institutions. This is crucial to effectively achieving national climate goals.
Climate protection in municipalities
In Germany there are around11,000 cities, towns and districtsactively involved in the area of climate protection. Findings from the practical guide “Climate Protection in Municipalities” provide important suggestions for measures at the municipal level. This guide, which is aimed at beginners and advanced users, offers comprehensive know-how and common tools for the successful implementation of climate protection measures. The information is on the new website leitfaden.kommunaler-klimaschutz.de accessible and enable the download of barrier-free PDFs.
To achieve greenhouse gas neutrality, municipalities need transformative measures in areas such as:Renovation of the existing buildings, transforming the transport sector and aligning with renewable energy. Such steps not only bring ecological benefits, but also improve the quality of life of citizens and create added value, such as cost-cutting measures or more green spaces. Of course, municipalities face challenges because many interests have to be weighed against each other.
The responsibility that municipalities have in climate protection is enormous, not least because of the legal framework and the existing competition between interests. But with the right approach, committed climate protection staff and the exchange of knowledge between theory and practice, an effective contribution can be made to achieving climate goals at the federal and international level.
