Buchen's high school shines after a 34 million euro renovation!

The city of Buchen can breathe a sigh of relief: The extensive renovation and expansion of the Buchen High School (BGB) has finally been completed. A total of around 34 million euros were invested in this future-oriented project. In addition, the sports and games hall, which is used for school sports, was renovated. This measure resulted in additional costs of around 7 million euros. However, the city has the option of reclaiming part of the construction costs from the surrounding communities from which the BGB students come - the proportion of non-resident students is around 54 percent.

Mayor Roland Burger is therefore determined not to put a strain on the municipal finances. He is aware of the concerns of Mayor Norbert Rippberger of Mudau, who expresses similar concerns about the financial costs of the renovation. “We have to have a good hand so that the budget is not ruined,” emphasizes Burger.

Increased subsidies in prospect

A ray of hope for the city of Buchen and other schools in the state could be the state government's planned increase in subsidies for school board tasks. These grants should also apply to ongoing projects, which could make it easier to finance school renovations. After all, it is clear that school construction - from new buildings to renovations and modernizations - takes place in close cooperation between the school authorities and the state. There are various funding programs that can be helpful in this context, such as: Boorberg education portal can be read.

In Baden-Württemberg, where the city of Buchen is located, both municipal and private school authorities are responsible for the construction and maintenance of school buildings. This often happens in coordination with the guidelines of the Ministry of Culture, which provides important administrative regulations for funding school construction. This issue not only affects Buchen, but also many schools in the region and beyond.

Economy and development in the region

Fortunately, the cultural landscape is also being maintained: the Erfatal Museum Association in Hardheim is preparing an exciting exhibition about Jewish life from 1325 to 1425. As part of the 975th anniversary of the Erftal community, this is a special occasion that illustrates the importance of history and culture.

This shows that a lot is happening in Buchen and the surrounding area, both in the areas of education as well as in the economy and culture. The coming months will show how the city will overcome the challenges and what further steps are needed to make the region future-proof.
