Young people at THW save lives after dramatic dust explosion!

Today, on October 31, 2025, the courageous young people of the THW Miltenberg youth group put on an impressive spectacle: their final exercise not only promised excitement, but was also educational. The scenario was explosive: a dust explosion in a carpentry workshop had filled the air with smoke and endangered the safety of the building. There were three missing people to be found - one was hiding upstairs, while two were believed to be in the basement.

In the midst of rubble and with limited visibility due to thick smoke, the young emergency services had to demonstrate their skills. They secured the site, illuminated the area and rescued the “injured”, a realistic training that illustrates the importance of the practical exercises. The platoon leader Leo Panizzi was responsible for coordination, and he also orchestrated the interaction between the various specialist groups. “The collaboration went great,” Panizzi summed up and praised his team’s performance.

Challenges in the practice situation

The unusual situation in the carpentry workshop was particularly exciting, where not only machines but also narrow spaces that restricted maneuverability were involved. “We had to adapt spontaneously,” reported one of the participants. In addition, the group leader of a unit was absent during the deployment, which increased the pressure on the young people. Nevertheless, they mastered the situation with flying colors and showed what they had learned in the intensive training.

The training makes the difference

But this exercise is only part of the overall experience at THW. The training of the emergency services places great emphasis on individual support and modern methods, such as THW reports: “We train competent emergency services for all situations.” Basic training is offered from the age of 16, followed by various advanced training options based on interests and needs.

Let's take a look at the role of THW Design, a subsidiary that deals with environmentally friendly and sustainable building design. THW Design was founded in 1957 and has since made a name for itself in the industry. Their focus is on taking environmental conditions into account during planning, so that sustainable buildings are created that are both modern and functional. Every year, over 7,000 professionals visit the LeadingAge Idea House, a THW Design project that presents new trends and products - proof of the company's innovative strength.

In summary, the THW Miltenberg youth group's final exercise was more than just a simulation. It was a courageous step towards a possible future in which these young people could one day help in an emergency. The THW not only offers a platform for young committed people, but also ensures that they are well prepared for all challenges.
