Pastor Matthias Lotz celebrates 70 years - a life in the service of God!

With a beaming smile and a lot of wisdom, Pastor Matthias Lotz is facing a very special milestone: On September 1st he will celebrate his 70th birthday! Born in Offenbach in 1955, the committed pastor has an impressive career that has spanned several decades. pow.bistum-wuerzburg.de reports that his ordination to the priesthood was on February 27, 1982 by Bishop Dr. Paul-Werner Scheele took place in Kilian's Cathedral in Würzburg. With his high level of competence and warmth, he has built a loyal community.

After his ordination, Lotz began his priestly service as a chaplain in Müdesheim, Kahl am Main and Miltenberg. From 1985 he also worked as a parish administrator in Miltenberg. His service began with his first pastorate in Kreuzwertheim in 1986, where he also took on responsibility for Unterwittbach and the Röttbach curate. Wuerzburgwiki emphasizes that from 1987 he also served as President of the Catholic Workers' Movement in the Marktheidenfeld district and thus supported the social concerns of the workers.

Career serving communities

His versatility was also reflected in his role as youth pastor for the Lohr deanery, which he took on in 1995. A year later he moved to Güntersleben, where he not only worked as pastor of St. Maternus, but also as president for liturgy and church music in the Würzburg deanery on the right of the Main and the Güntersleben Kolping family. Here he was not only responsible for religious support, but also for the cultural affairs of the community.

This responsibility continued to grow: in 2002 he took over the management of the newly founded Güntersleben-Thüngersheim parish community, where he has also been the pastor of Thüngersheim since 2003. His achievements did not go unnoticed; In 2005 he was elected deputy dean, which placed him in a prominent position within the church leadership. Lotz's commitment was also visible in 2011 and 2012, when he temporarily worked as a parish administrator in Rimpar and Maidbronn.

Preparing for retirement

Pastor Lotz has been head of the parish community “Birth of Mary and Saint Norbert – Höchberg” since 2015. In recent years he has also temporarily taken over administrative tasks in Kirchheim and Gaubüttelbrunn. He has held his current responsibility as parish administrator of the parish community “Heiligkreuz, Sankt Elisabeth and Sankt Burkard” since October 2021. pow.bistum-wuerzburg.de informs that he is preparing for his planned retirement on November 1, 2025.
