Heat wave hits Bavaria – Munich is hit the hardest!

We're looking forward to a hot weekend! The German Weather Service (DWD) has already issued an official warning that affects almost all of Bavaria. This means: temperatures above 30 degrees are not only to be expected in the coming period, but could even exceed 34 degrees. Munich is not spared from this heat wave Mercury reported.

The risk associated with such temperatures should not be underestimated. Older people, people in need of care and those with chronic illnesses are particularly at risk. The DWD points out that the warning applies from Sunday 11 a.m. to Monday 7 p.m. and can be adjusted depending on how the heat wave develops. Various districts, including the Oberallgäu district and the city of Munich, are particularly affected.

Health risks and recommendations

As well as daily news has highlighted, previous temperatures show that the risk of health problems increases fivefold from 25 degrees - even sevenfold at 30 degrees. Sufficient fluids are therefore the top priority, and seniors and children in particular should pay attention to this. Experts recommend drinking about 2.5 to 3 liters a day, preferably mineral water or unsweetened teas.

But it's not just drinking that counts, diet also plays a role. Light food, such as fruit and vegetables, is ideal. If you avoid heavy, fatty foods, your body will stay fit longer. In addition, on tropical nights we should be prepared for a cooling shower and cool the apartment by airing it out.

Be careful about overheating

Caution is also advised with regard to sporting activities, which should mainly be carried out in the cooler morning and evening hours. Signs such as dizziness, headaches or extreme tiredness can indicate overheating. The following applies here: In the event of heat stroke, call an emergency doctor immediately!

Another important point is our pets. They also need adequate protection from the heat and enough fluids. Remember to include your four-legged friends in heat prevention too!

The health effects of extreme heat sequences are already noticeable in Germany due to climate change. Like that RKI reports, an increase in heat waves is expected in the coming decades. It is therefore now essential that effective heat protection is developed in order to better protect particularly vulnerable groups.

Conclusion: Get ready for the following hot days and remember what counts: cooling down, fluids and, above all, your health!
