TSV 1860 Munich: President Mang cleans up – coach and manager fired!

TSV 1860 Munich is in a tricky situation: After three defeats in a row, the Lions are under great pressure to secure their promotion to the 2nd league. Those responsible have now made clear decisions to bring about a turnaround. Gernot Mang, president of the club since July 2025, has coach Patrick Glöckner and managing director Dr. Christian Werner released to initiate a fundamental realignment. This reports Mercury.

The sporting situation is tense: after eight match days, the team has only collected 11 points. However, Gernot Mang is optimistic and does not see the layoffs as a crisis step. “I don’t see any chaos and certainly no crisis,” he emphasizes. The decisions were made in close coordination with the two shareholders and were handled professionally. Mang is convinced that a realignment of the club is necessary in order to achieve its sporting goals. Transfer market also cites that - although both still have ongoing contracts - Mang does not want to reveal details about the layoffs.

The pressure is growing

The criticism of Christian Werner, who as manager addressed the club's limited budget at the start of the season, has faded in recent weeks. Especially after two consecutive defeats, he questioned the coach, which many saw as early doubts about the sporting concept. Mang, on the other hand, is known for quickly stopping false developments and has already ensured a certain degree of clarity in the past.

Although the layoffs raise worrying questions, hope for a positive turnaround remains. “We are only three points away from the relegation place,” says Mang, emphasizing that the fans shouldn’t give up yet. Several candidates are being discussed for the new head coach, including Peter Pacult, Michael Köllner and Thomas Wörle. The decision should be made during the international break at the latest, with reserve coach Alper Kayabunar taking over interim management for the time being.

The way forward

As Mang makes clear, it is important to him to find an experienced coach who not only knows the third division, but also has the talent to develop young players. Fans can be excited to see what direction the club will take and whether Mang can find the right balance to get the Lions back on the road to success. Mercury Finally reports that the collaboration with the new team will be crucial for the next steps in the club.
