HSV suffers a clear defeat against Hannover 96 – Glatzel scores!

In the test match on September 4, 2025, Hamburger SV suffered a bitter defeat against Hannover 96. With 1:3 (0:2), Hamburg couldn't get anything countable this time. The game took place on training pitch 6 at the Volksparkstadion and offered the spectators some exciting moments.

Waniss Taibi scored the goals for Hannover in the 41st minute, followed by Jannik Rochelt just three minutes later. Kolja Oudenne increased the score to 3-0 in the 61st minute before Robert Glatzel scored HSV's consolation goal with a penalty kick in the 73rd minute. Among the changed lineups that coach Tim Walter made during the game, new signings such as Sambi Lokonga and Fábio Vieira were given playing time after being signed on Monday.

Game analysis and coaching changes

As t-online.de reports, Hannover 96 showed a clear superiority, especially in the first half and at the beginning of the second half. Coach Christian Titz, who had been relegated from the Bundesliga with HSV a few years earlier, gave his team a different style of play, which became clear in the test match.

The game turned out to be another setback for HSV, which had already lost the city derby against FC St. Pauli 2-0. The Hamburg team is therefore required to improve until the next competitive game on September 13th against Bayern Munich, which starts at 6:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live on Sky, as will the following game between Hannover and Hertha BSC.

Outlook for upcoming challenges

HSV's next competitive games are tough. On October 5th, HSV hosts 1. FSV Mainz 05 at 5:30 p.m. before facing RB Leipzig on October 18th. The home game against VfL Wolfsburg is scheduled for October 25th. A particularly interesting encounter will be the away game at 1. FC Köln on November 2nd. And the game against Borussia Dortmund on November 8th also promises to be explosive. Finally, HSV has its second round game in the DFB Cup on October 28th, at 6:30 p.m., at 1. FC Heidenheim, where the spectator can't just be in the stadium - the game will not be broadcast on free TV, but will be broadcast live on Sky.

It remains to be hoped for HSV fans that the team will learn from its recent setbacks and be able to play freely - also with a view to the Bundesliga statistics. The team has experienced ups and downs in its own history, from the glorious times such as the 1982/83 season, in which they won the championship title, to the unfortunately less pleasant relegations.

With a good hand, HSV can certainly get back on the road to success in the coming games.
