A7 in Bavaria: Complete closure at the weekend – diversion urgently needed!

At the weekend, drivers in Bavaria had to expect an unexpected full closure. The A7 motorway will be closed in both directions between Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Wörnitz. This measure is necessary due to maintenance and cleaning work on the Pfeffermühle viaduct, which carries traffic over state road 2247. The period affected by the closure is from Saturday, November 8th, 2025, 8 p.m. to Sunday, November 9th, 2025, 6 a.m. Users of the A7 should therefore be prepared for diversions: In the direction of Würzburg, the diversion takes place at the Wörnitz junction and for the Ulm direction at the Rothenburg ob der Tauber junction. After the work is completed, the motorway will be accessible again, as merkur.de reports.

These restrictions are part of a larger initiative to renovate dilapidated infrastructure in Germany. The federal government is planning massive investments of 166 billion euros by 2029 to improve the quality of roads and rails. A particularly large part of these investments, around 107 billion euros, is earmarked for rail. The aim is to increase transport investments by around 60 percent compared to the years 2020 to 2024. This important development is also reflected in the planned general renovation of over 40 heavily used railway lines, including the Frankfurt-Mannheim line. This goes back to tagesschau.de.

Renovations and modernizations

Another focus is on converting around 100 train stations into “train stations of the future” in the current year. These stations will be redesigned according to uniform criteria in order to improve train information and enable barrier-free design. So far, 40 train stations have already been converted, which should significantly improve the punctuality and reliability of Deutsche Bahn.

The highway and rail projects show how important the modernization of the infrastructure is. The extensive work, which affects both roads and railway lines, is necessary to meet the increased demands of road users. This makes it clear that further construction sites and restrictions must be expected in the foreseeable future in order to bring the transport infrastructure up to modern standards.

The measures on the A7 and the investments in rail are part of an important step into the future. Drivers and rail travelers should prepare for a transitional period in which there will be restrictions, but ultimately a noticeable improvement in traffic conditions can be expected. Those interested can find further information about the changes and the affected routes in the current reports from merkur.de and tagesschau.de.
