Armin Guggemos becomes the new second mayor of Rückholz!

Yesterday evening the time had come: the local council of Rückholz, a small, idyllic town in the Ostallgäu, held a meeting that was called at short notice. In this, Armin Guggemos was elected as the new second mayor with only one opposing vote. He is the successor to Hermann Dopfer, who unexpectedly resigned from his position at the beginning of last week and also resigned his mandate on the local council. Katja Peters will replace Dopfer on the local council, which marks the next step in the municipality's political landscape.

Rückholz, located at around 869 m above sea level. NHN, is not only pretty to look at, but also historically interesting. The place combines history and nature - apart from the beautiful landscape with various idyllic ponds, such as the Grundweiher and the Trollweiher, Rückholz has undergone an exciting historical development. Once the seat of a ruler, the place was assigned to the St. Mang Monastery in 1474 and later, in 1806, part of the Kingdom of Bavaria. The community was finally founded in 1818 and is now a lively part of the Ostallgäu district with around 1,000 inhabitants. Wikipedia offers comprehensive information on this.

Municipal council election and distribution of seats

The election to the local council in Bavaria follows the calculation method according to Sainte-Laguë/Schepers, which ensures a fair distribution of seats. In Rückholz, the local council is made up of eight members, each of whom is elected via joint lists. The last election showed a clear distribution of votes. While the A party received 20,554 votes and thus won 9 seats, the other parties were distributed according to the number of votes received. Bavarian State Ministry counts the individual seats, which shapes the political landscape of the municipality.

The statistical data shows that Rückholz has developed continuously over the decades. In 1961 just 590 people lived here; Today, as of the end of 2024, there are already 1,007 residents. The population density is 58 inhabitants per square kilometer, which makes it a “good place” in the community – for both residents and visitors.

What happens next? The coming months will show how the new constellation in the local council will develop under the leadership of Franz Erl and Armin Guggemos. One thing is certain: Rückholz remains a charming spot that skilfully combines tradition and progress.
