Success for Passau: District Games Committee revises classification!

The cards have now been reshuffled in Bavarian football. The Bavarian Football Association (BFV) has divided 70 clubs into five groups based on the teams' driving distances. This not only creates new challenges, but also controversies - and they were tough!

The focus is on 1. FC Passau, which successfully protested against the originally assigned division of its second team into the Passau-Freyung relay. The sporting director, Christian Wolf, expressed concerns and drew attention to the additional distances of almost 200 kilometers per season. The appeal ended well and the district gaming committee revised the decision. The second team of 1. FC Passau will play in the Pocking district class in the coming 2025/2026 season, while FC Tiefenbach DJK, which is geographically closer to the Passau-Freyung season, will now be relocated to the Passau/Freyung district class.

History of 1. FC Passau

1. FC Passau has a long and eventful history that goes back to 1893, when the first football games took place in Passau at the Athletes Club (today ASV Passau). The club itself was founded in 1911 under the name “Football Club Passau”. Since then, the club has experienced some ups and downs, including promotion to the Lower Bavaria A-Class in 1922 and the first national title as winner of the district cup championship in 1925. The club's history is characterized by mergers, promotions and relegations, as well as a clear development in football in Bavaria. 1. FC Passau is a real traditional club!

The club is particularly well-known in the region, which also has an impact on the number of members. Bavaria has numerous sports clubs, and of these, football clubs have the most followers with 1.57 million members. One in six children in Bavaria is active in a football club, making football a popular choice in the region.

The look forward

Of course, it remains to be seen how the new league classification will affect the teams' performance. East district game manager Andreas Kriegner at least announced the decision and pointed out that there was still the possibility of appealing. FC Tiefenbach DJK also plans to appeal the decision.

The exciting season that is just around the corner promises many interesting developments – both on the pitch and behind the scenes. In any case, 1. FC Passau will do everything in its power to achieve its sporting goals and assert itself in the new league.
