TC Pfaffenhofen: Women are relegated, men reach their season goal

The tennis ladies of TC Pfaffenhofen suffered their season defeat against TC Glückauf Kropfmühl with 2:7 in the state league 1 on the last match day and are therefore relegated to the state league 2. Despite the clear defeat, team captain Steffi Huber put the youth in the foreground and gave several young players the chance to prove themselves. “Since relegation was already certain, I wanted to give the younger players more match practice,” explained Huber. Even though the team ultimately finished last with no points, there were some bright spots in the individual games.

Evelyn Schmidt was able to achieve a confident victory in second place with 6:1, 6:1 against Laura Gratzl. Paula Eichenseher also defended herself bravely and narrowly won the match tiebreak with 1:6, 6:3, 10:8 against Monika Drudikova. On the other hand, however, many players suffered bitter defeats, including Lilly-Marie Wentzler, who lost 1:6, 0:6 against Magdaléna Skachová.

The individual results in detail

The individual results are as follows:

  • Evelyn Schmidt (Position 2) gewann 6:1, 6:1 gegen Laura Gratzl.
  • Paula Eichenseher (Position 3) gewann 1:6, 6:3, 10:8 gegen Monika Drudikova.
  • Steffi Huber (Position 1) verlor 1:6, 2:6 gegen Lucie Soukupová.
  • Lilly-Marie Wentzler (Position 4) verlor 1:6, 0:6 gegen Magdaléna Skachová.
  • Carolin Ponetsmüller (Position 5) verlor 0:6, 0:6 gegen Katerina Brožová.
  • Tanja Fiedler (Position 6) verlor 6:7, 1:6 gegen Jana Maria Rei.

Things were similarly disappointing for the Pfaffenhofen team in the doubles matches. Here too there were no points. The Huber/Schmidt team lost in the match tiebreak, while Eichenseher and Wentzler also lost out. “Despite the relegation, we remain optimistic and are concentrating on developing our talents,” added Huber.

The men's team is on the rise

The situation is different for the men from TC Pfaffenhofen, who have achieved their goal for the season. They finished the season in the Landesliga 2 in a solid fifth place, after a 3:6 in the last game against MTTC Iphitos Munich II. Team captain Jonas Raps drew a positive conclusion. “We have achieved our goal of staying in the league and can look back on some great matches,” he said.

The men achieved three wins and four defeats this season and there were some outstanding performances here too. Christian Rauch and Jonas Raps shone with individual victories and secured valuable points for their team. Raps' game was particularly remarkable, as he not only won the singles but also excelled in the doubles.

Tennis in Germany and the region

Tennis is still one of the most popular sports in Germany. With around 390,000 active players and around 45,000 tennis facilities, interest continues to be high. According to Statista, tennis is the fourth largest sport in Germany. The association sees a real boom, especially among young people, which is also reflected in the planned youth tournaments such as Open youth district championships of the TC Pfaffenhofen, which attracts many participants.

The organizers are expecting over 60 participants and are looking forward to exciting competitions in the U12 to U18 age groups. The positive cooperation between the players is also emphasized. “Especially in these times it becomes clear how important fairness and respect are in sport,” said the tournament management. The anticipation of these events is clearly noticeable in the tennis community.

With the relegation of the women and the solid performance of the men, TC Pfaffenhofen is facing a decisive phase. Hopes for rehabilitation next year remain while the youth players remain the focus. “We are working on reshaping our team for the coming season,” says Steffi Huber, looking optimistically into the future.
