35 years of friendship: Regensburg and Odessa celebrate their partnership!

A very special anniversary is currently being celebrated in Regensburg, which is all about international friendship. On October 25, 2025, the 35th anniversary of the twinning between Regensburg and Odessa was celebrated. Festive events marking this anniversary will further highlight the close connection between the two cities. The official sealing of this partnership took place on November 4, 1990 and since then many joint projects, cultural exchanges and regular meetings have contributed to deeper cooperation. This partnership focuses on areas such as youth, culture, education and science, which is of great benefit to the participating cities.

To properly celebrate the occasion, Mayor Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer opened the exhibition “Preserve the Sun” in the Thon-Dittmer-Palais, which will be on view until November 29, 2025. The exhibition shows artist Alexander Yakimchuk's impressive photographs, which address the beauty and fragility of our world and shed light on the importance of nature and the environment.

A musical celebration

Another highlight of the celebrations was the concert in which young musicians from the Odessa Music School No. 4 performed together with the wind orchestra from the Regensburg Municipal Singing and Music School. The concert program set a tone for the cultural exchange between the two twin cities and offered those present a wonderful insight into the musical traditions of both regions.

In her speech, the mayor emphasized the immense importance of the exchange between Regensburg and Odessa. “This partnership stands for cohesion, peace and solidarity,” she emphasized, underlining the important values behind the initiative. The cooperation between cities shows how cultural bridges can strengthen friendships between different countries.
