Seniors' trip on the Danube: joy and exchange on board!
Last Wednesday, June 25, 2025, around 170 senior citizens from the Regensburg district enjoyed a magical boat trip on the Danube. The event was organized by the department “Help in difficult life situations – Nursing Support Plus in the Regensburg district”, as well as the representatives for senior citizens and disabled people from the municipality of Köfering, Johann Seemann and Winfried Mai. On board the MS Fürstin Gloria of the Klinger shipping company, the participants set off on a picturesque trip from Regensburg to Bach an der Donau and back.
In the best summer weather, passengers not only experienced the wonderful view of the surrounding area, but also a lively atmosphere. The largest group of participants came from Köfering with 69 people, followed by 29 seniors from Pettendorf and 17 from Tegernheim. During the trip, participants had the opportunity to take a look at the famous Walhalla, an important German national monument from the 19th century, located in Donaustauf, about ten kilometers east of Regensburg. The memorial was built on behalf of King Ludwig I and is a popular destination that can also be reached by passenger ship, albeit with a steep climb of around 420 meters to the actual Walhalla.
Memories and outlook
The atmosphere on board the MS Fürstin Gloria was carefree and happy. The participants exchanged ideas lively and looked back on the wonderful experiences of the trip. “God bless you” was often heard – thanks to the Klinger shipping company and all the organizers who made this day so pleasant. The local senior representatives also emphasized how important such events are for the community and the exchange between the older generation.
There are numerous options for future adventures on the Danube. The MS Primadonna, for example, operated by Accamino, offers barrier-free river cruises. For travelers with special needs, the ship has a variety of facilities, including elevators between decks and wheelchair-accessible cabins with walk-in showers. These accessible options have become very popular in recent years, which also improves the ability of seniors to travel.
Those interested in information can find further details about Walhalla as well as how to get there and accessibility at barrierfreier-tourismus.info. In addition, flusskreuzfahrtpiraten.de describes how you can easily book barrier-free river cruises, which makes planning easier.
Such trips and the associated promotion of an active lifestyle are essential for the quality of life of our seniors. Further activities are planned that will also promote integration and participation. The memories of this beautiful trip will certainly last for a long time!
