African Gray Parrot Bruce escaped: Where is the singing bird?

In Pilsting, a small community in the Dingolfing-Landau district, an African gray parrot named Bruce is causing a stir. The clever bird escaped from its cage on Whit Monday and fled to freedom. His owner Götz said in an interview that Bruce skillfully taught himself how to open his cage. Even cable ties couldn't stop him from giving in to his urge to go outside. “I think Bruce knows his home and is coming back,” said Götz optimistically.

Bruce is no ordinary parrot. He has a love of rock music and enjoys listening to “Highway to Hell” by AC/DC. Additionally, he is known for his ability to imitate various sounds, including cell phone tones and even fire alarms. His favorite saying is “Dr. Bruce,” which he uses to call himself, so to speak. However, you should be careful: Bruce is not tame and can bite - he especially doesn't like men that much. “A neighbor once stroked him, but I haven’t been able to get hold of him yet,” said Götz.

Special features of the African gray parrot

Gray parrots, like Bruce, are not only impressive singers, but are also considered the best imitators among birds. Scientifically they are calledPsittacus erithacusclassified and originally come from the tropical rainforests of Central Africa. The birds are around 33 centimeters in size and are characterized by a grayish color. Interestingly, they can live up to 55 years, making them long-term companions.

A call to return

Götz is determined to find Bruce and has offered a reward of 100 euros for the finder. He is also planning a welcome party for everyone who helped with the search. “I try to attract Bruce every day with rock music and his favorite snacks like nuts and fruit,” reveals Götz, hoping to be able to hug his feathered friend again soon.

In such a situation it becomes clear how important the bond between humans and animals is. As the wildlife explains, African Gray Parrots not only need a lot of space, but also continuous social interaction to be happy. They are sociable animals that are best kept in pairs or groups.

Bruce's story not only touched local readers, but also shows the adventure a little parrot can experience when it decides to swap the safety of home for the vastness of nature. Götz's family and friends hope for a happy ending and that Bruce will quickly find his way back to his familiar place.
