Danger of severe weather over southeast Bavaria: Severe thunderstorms and hail are threatening!
The weather will show its unpleasant side on June 15, 2025 and not without reason. Again German Weather Service (DWD) reports that severe thunderstorms are imminent over southeastern Bavaria. Severe weather warnings have already been raised to level 2 for the entire region. The east of the Traunstein district and the north of the Berchtesgadener Land district are particularly badly affected. Rainfall of up to 60 liters per square meter is possible here, accompanied by hail and strong squalls.
The storm front, which is approaching from the southwest, has already shown its first foothills in the Mangfalltal and Rosenheim district. The first thunderstorms can be expected between 4 and 5 p.m. northeast of Rosenheim and northwest of Lake Chiemsee. The DWD also warns of heavy rain with amounts of up to 25 liters per square meter and wind speeds of up to 85 km/h. These extreme meteorological events fall directly on a hot, humid summer day with temperatures between 28 and 33 degrees, which had peaked at 35.5 degrees in Kitzingen the day before.
Recommendations for action for the population
The DWD's recommendations include urgently needed measures to protect yourself and the surrounding area. The population is called upon toAvoid staying outdoors, avoid bodies of water and secure all detached objects. Paying attention to falling objects and avoiding flooded areas are also essential. You should also adapt your behavior in traffic and clear your basement immediately if there is a risk of flooding.
Additionally there is the DWD known that the cold front of a low with a core near the Shetlands is moving over Germany and displacing the warm, moist air. Although this initially leads to violent thunderstorms and heavy rain, the risk of severe weather should decrease on Monday night as the thunderstorms move eastwards and the weather calms down from the northwest.
Summary of thunderstorm warnings
The current warnings are more important than ever, especially in the flood-prone region. The following risks are planned:
- Starkregen von bis zu 40 Liter pro Quadratmeter in sehr kurzer Zeit.
- Lokale Hagelgrößen bis zu 3 cm.
- Schwere Sturmböen mit Windgeschwindigkeiten von bis zu 100 km/h.
The Severe Weather Center provides ongoing information and monitors the situation in Bavaria. The warnings are divided into different levels, with the highest warning level due to the risk of significant damage from hail and storms. These precise forecasts are crucial for the transport and agricultural sectors as well as for event organizers to take timely precautions.
So be careful in the coming hours: keep an eye on the weather and act according to the recommendations to get through the storm safely!
