ZDF media library inspires: new releases in September 2025 for all viewers!

On September 2, 2025, the ZDF media library will bring a breath of fresh air into the streaming world. This month a varied program is offered that covers various genres and has something for both children and adults. The media library, which is known to offer free content, is expanding its streaming offering with new series, films and exciting documentaries. A real treat for anyone who wants to add variety to their TV evenings.

The thriller series “High Stakes”, which revolves around the captivating poker adventures of the protagonist Ayla, will start from September 5th. On September 12th, the popular series “Boarders – Welcome to St. Gilbert’s” returns with its second season, followed by the long-awaited season 13 of “Futurama” on September 16th. Thriller fans will get their money's worth with "Wolf's Summer - Bloody Traces" on September 21st, while the cult series "The Rosenheim Cops", together with "Notruf Hafenkante" and "Betty's Diagnosis", presents new cases on September 30th. To cap off the month, on September 31, viewers can immerse themselves in the world of “The Diplomat,” a British-Spanish thriller about power games in international politics.

New films and documentaries

Another highlight is the French thriller “La Maison – House of Lust”, which will be celebrated on September 1st. Memorable for history buffs is “One Day in September,” a film about the political relationship between Adenauer and de Gaulle, which will be broadcast on September 6th. The documentaries are also exciting and informative: The “Terra X” series, which starts on September 7th with “Among Dinos – Albertosaur Rose – The Pack”, is particularly recommended. “Always Hamburg – Hope, Pain, Connection”, a documentary about Hamburger SV, will follow on September 12th.

But that’s not all: “Quiz Champion – The Fundraising Special” will be broadcast live on September 13th, followed by interesting documentaries about dinosaurs and fitness on September 28th. The science program “MAITHINK X – The Show: Building Muscle” will also focus on the topic of fitness.

Content for the youngest viewers

The younger viewers don't miss out either. The animated series “Iron Man and His Fantastic Friends” (Season 1), which is specifically intended for young Marvel fans, starts on September 17th. This shows that the ZDF media library wants to continually improve its programming not only for adults, but also for children.

Thanks to the user-friendly platform, the ZDF media library is easily accessible via browser, app and smart TVs. The new content, available from September 1, 2025, also includes ten new episodes of existing series, including “Yesterday We Were Kids,” “Adventures in Silverpoint,” and “In Truth,” all of which are appealing to a broad audience. The media library therefore remains a central player in the German streaming market, continuously working to compete with international giants such as Netflix and Amazon.

The ZDF media library proves that it is much more than just an archive. The new strategy also included the production of our own formats in order to increase the attractiveness of the offering and to provide viewers with content tailored to their individual needs. The continued high demand during the Corona pandemic has shown that public broadcasters are well positioned in the media library to also reach younger age groups.

While ARD and ZDF want to bring their media libraries even closer together in the future, it remains exciting to see how they can continue to maintain their place in the highly competitive streaming market. It remains to be seen whether the introduction of new business models or increased cooperation will contribute to this. But one thing is certain: the ZDF media library has a lot to offer this month, and the streaming offer will continue to be very popular.
