Falconer defends Class B title: Kress takes the win!
In an exciting new iteration of the sports rivalry, Falconer, Cassadaga Valley and Maple Grove teams successfully defended the Section VI Class B title on November 2, 2025. How Post Journal reported, the Golden Cougars beat Allegany-Limestone with a narrow 1-0 and thus secured the coveted title.
The thrilling final took place at Williamsville North High School, where the atmosphere was palpable. Junior Kylie Kress scored the game-winning goal in the 36th minute after receiving a precise pass from Sydnee Snow. Of note, Kress had to sit out for a while this season due to an injury in a previous meeting against Allegany-Limestone.
Came back strong in the final
The Golden Cougars, who started the tournament as the third team, showed impressive resilience and defended their title against fifth-place team Allegany-Limestone. “Our team has worked hard and made great progress,” said coach Brett Johnson, praising his players. This tenacious performance was also reflected in the strong defensive performance, which severely limited Allegany-Limestone's offense.
The performance of goalkeeper Ellyson Baglia was particularly impressive, as she was able to fend off two dangerous shots from Kennedy Honeck and a free kick that hit the crossbar. Such saves were crucial in maintaining the narrow lead.
Looking ahead
With this game win, the Golden Cougars continue their path towards the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Far West Regionals. The winner of the duel between Section V Class B1 Champion Livonia and B2 Champion Williamson will be waiting there next Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Last year, the Golden Cougars suffered a painful 1-2 loss to Hornell in regionals and will do everything they can to avenge that defeat.
This great event not only shows the sports-specific solidarity of the teams, but also highlights the importance of school sports in the region. The challenges ahead will show whether the Golden Cougars can carry this positive energy into the next games.
Finally, it is to be hoped that the fans will continue to support the team as they continue their journey towards further success and possibly a repeat of the title story of years past.
