A look at the history of triathlon

Did you know that the first triathlon took place in San Diego, California back in 1974? The sport has developed rapidly over the past few decades and now has a permanent place among the Olympic disciplines. In Germany, the sport of triathlon has been promoted by the German Triathlon Union (DTU) since 1985, which takes care of all multi-sports such as triathlon, duathlon and aquathlon. Triathlon is a relatively young sport that has been hosting competitions in Germany since 1982.

The successes of athletes like Jan Frodeno, who won Olympic gold in Beijing in 2008 and the Ironman Hawaii in 2015 and 2016, show the potential that lies in this sport. After his success at Ironman Carinthia, Finn Große-Freese has now joined the ranks of talented German triathletes and has the triathlon community looking forward to his next appearances.
