Construction of state road 2090 near Tann: Improves safety and traffic!

The government of Lower Bavaria recently took an important step towards improving the transport infrastructure. The expansion of state road 2090 between Gasteig and Untertürken, south of Tann, was approved. A total of 13.4 million euros are to be invested in a section over 3.5 kilometers long in order to significantly increase safety and traffic quality. PNP reports that this section of road represents an important connection from parish churches to federal highway 20 and the A 94.

The project received particular attention due to the high number of accidents in this area. Around 60 traffic accidents occurred there between 1998 and 2021. One reason for this is the many identified defects such as insufficient road width, tight curves and insufficient visibility at junctions. Bavarian State Building Authority has therefore decided to push ahead with the expansion of the road in order not only to improve the alignment, but also to create a continuous cycle path and offer pedestrians more safety.

Planned measures

The planned expansion will be carried out primarily in an inventory-oriented manner. Existing narrow curves are to be flattened and the Tanner Bach must be partially relocated. A frost-proof surface with a road width of 7.5 meters is planned for the superstructure. The precipitation is seeped away over a wide area or drained away through retention ditches and a rain retention basin. PNP

This project is not only of local but also national importance as it serves as a feeder to the A 94. Widening and improving the shoulders should make encountering traffic easier and adapt planning for future traffic loads. Bavarian State Building Authority has clearly formulated the objective: More safety for all road users and improving overall traffic quality are the priority.

Status of the measures

The planning documents for this important project can already be viewed on the Lower Bavaria government website and will soon be publicly displayed in the communities of Zeilarn and Reut as well as in the Tann market. Everyone involved should be given the opportunity to contribute their opinions and suggestions. PNP

Such infrastructural measures must also be viewed in the context of the current challenges in German road construction. After the collapse of the Carola Bridge in Dresden in 2024, the federal government decided on a renovation package worth around 500 billion euros, a large part of which will flow into the expansion of federal highways. This shows that there is a great need for action in the infrastructure and that numerous road projects need to be tackled nationwide. Statista also brings up the trend in the number of trainees in road construction, which points to a varied and urgently needed need for skilled workers.
