Festbier Oktoberfest opens: Gangkofen celebrates until Sunday!

The “Six Day Festival” was ceremoniously opened in the tranquil Gangkofen on Thursday evening. Mayor Matthäus Mandl took on the traditional task of tapping the first keg of festival beer and followed up with two powerful taps to increase the tension among the numerous people present. “O’zapft is!” he shouted, and the mood couldn’t be better. Among the guests were prominent faces, including District Administrator Michael Fahmüller and MdL Martin Wagle, who all came to celebrate this special event. The Zens family, the festival hosts, and representatives of the brewery were also present to kick off an unforgettable evening. According to [pnp.de](https://www.pnp.de/lokales/landkreis-rottal-inn/zwei-kraehafte-schlaege-bis-zur-ersten-mass-festbier-volksfest-in-gangkofen- Feierlich-eroeffnet-18991511), the celebration began at 6 p.m. in front of the town hall, musically accompanied by the “BinaBlech” brass band.

The traditional procession of the clubs through the market square began as early as 6:30 p.m. Here it becomes clear how important the clubs are in the community and how important togetherness is. The evening was provided with music by the party band “Next in Line”, which created a good atmosphere. On Friday evening, the focus is traditionally on Business Day, where the music from “Heldensteiner HeuBodnBlosn” will put the guests in a festive mood.

A colorful program awaits visitors

The festival not only offers a tasty “Sechtagefest” beer, but also a varied program for young and old. Saturday is set as a social day for the market and the country, on which all seniors aged 70 and over are invited to beer and snacks. On Sunday, the morning pint with white sausage breakfast is on the program from 10 a.m., followed by an exciting sheep's head tournament with cash prizes. The afternoon games begin at 1 p.m., accompanied musically by Waldemar Leirich. The crowning conclusion of the festival on Sunday evening will be the “Schlawinerband” with Bavarian music, which invites the guests to dance.

But Gangkofen has even more to offer! According to gangkofen.de, other events will take place in July, including markets and a traditional festival that brings the community together. Particularly noteworthy are the numerous events in September that enliven the sporting and cultural life in Gangkofen.

About folk festivals in Bavaria

The tradition of folk festivals in Bavaria goes far beyond the Gangkofen Festival. There are numerous celebrations in the region that celebrate very different customs. A popular example is the Viehscheid in the Allgäu, where the return of cattle from the alpine meadows is celebrated. Decorated animals parade through the villages, which, according to erlebe.bayern, attracts countless visitors every year. This tradition shows the strong sense of community that can also be felt in Gangkofen, where the festival offers citizens an opportunity to meet and strengthen the village community.

Gangkofen presents itself as a lively community in which tradition and modernity meet harmoniously. The “Six Day Festival” is not just a gastronomic highlight, but a festival for all the senses and a festival that connects people’s hearts. Mark the dates in your calendar and enjoy the cozy days with friends and neighbors!
