On September 2, 2025, the popular hunter shooting event of the Pfarrkirchen district group took place in the Bavarian Hunting Association, where past traditions and sporting ambition came together. This year Martin Haunreiter was crowned the new district champion after he was able to gain the upper hand over his competitors after an exciting play-off. The event attracted 48 participants from seven hunting rings, including two hunters, who started the competition with a lot of enthusiasm.

The tension was already high in the run-up to the competition. The shooting disciplines trap and skeet, under the expert direction of Karl Gröppner, were on the program. In trap, the clay disc is fired from a point guard in different directions, while in skeet, the discs are fired from two fixed points in fixed directions. After the first round, Martin Haunreiter, together with Christian Sonnleitner and Martin Kugler, were tied with 19 goals each.

Play for the title

Martin Haunreiter was finally able to prevail in the playoff with his impressive hit rate of 17 points and secured the title of district champion. Josef Stadler, who won the Wirnhier Memorial Cup in the knockout system, shone alongside Haunreiter. The special competition for the Kaiserkanne was won by Martin Kugler, who shone as the best shooter in his hunting ring with 86 hits.

This event is accompanied by music not only by the shooters, but also by the hunting horn players, who worthy of honoring the competitors. Welcoming words were spoken by, among others, Deputy District Administrator Kurt Vallée and Third Mayor Hans Hirl. A special thank you went to the supporters of hunter shooting as well as the city and the district for approving the shooting range, which was built in 1969 with the help of Olympic champion Konrad “Conny” Wirnhier.

An inheritance to the power of three

Conny Wirnhier, who was born on July 7, 1937 in Pfarrkirchen and died in 2002, is considered a legendary figure in shooting sports. Not only was he an excellent sports shooter, but he is also known as the Olympic champion in skeet shooting at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. Wirnhier, who ran his own gunsmith as a master gunsmith, shaped shooting sports in Germany with innovative techniques and promoted the training of young shooters. In honor of his memory, not only local initiatives but also the award ceremony area at the Olympic shooting range in Hochbrück were named after him.

Hunter shooting has deep-rooted traditions in the region and remains a symbol of the sporting solidarity of the hunting community. The event shows how closely the community is connected through sport and the common interest in weapons and always offers a fascinating insight into the precise and passionate world of shooting sports. In this way, the shooting range will continue to be a place where old traditions are maintained and new talents are discovered.
