Schweinfurt Wildlife Park: 55,000 euros collected for the new Beo aviary!

There was great joy in the Schweinfurt Wildlife Park when the last donation of 7,000 euros was handed over for the innovative Beopolis project on July 15, 2025. This brings the total donation amount to an impressive 55,000 euros, which makes it possible to build a modern aviary for the endangered Mittelbeos. On the occasion of the handover, the steel substructure of the aviary was erected - an important milestone for the future of the wildlife park. How Revista reports, the new aviary will be a central part of the further development of the wildlife park.

The main features of the new living space? It is intended not only to arouse the fascination of visitors, but also to actively contribute to the protection of endangered animal species. Florian Dittert, the chairman of the Friends of the Wildlife Park, emphasizes the immense importance of species protection, especially in view of the dangers that threaten the Mittelbeos from illegal fishing practices and loss of their habitat. Wildlife park manager Thomas Leier and construction officer Ralf Brettin also thanked the supporters for their tireless efforts.

Together for species protection

The Beopolis initiative is part of a broader commitment that goes far beyond the wildlife park. The German Zoo Society (DTG) actively pursues the goal of enabling endangered species to survive. It initiates and supports various projects that contribute to the preservation of these species, such as the Zoo Animal of the Year to promote lesser-known animal species. Projects such as the “Amphibian Fund” and initiatives to reintroduce the little owl show the desire to preserve habitats and protect species from extinction DTG highlights.

The Mittelbeos in particular are threatened with extinction, and their breeding has already borne fruit. Successful offspring were handed over to partner zoos, which underlines the importance of the breeding programs. The completion of additional aviaries in the wildlife park is already planned for the course of the year, and the entire Beopolis facility is scheduled to be ceremoniously opened as part of the wildlife park festival in July 2026.

Special raffle for the fundraiser

The recent award ceremony for the main round of the Beopolis fundraising campaign was also a dazzling event. Not only were supporters able to enjoy their contribution to the “City of Birds”, they also had the chance to win attractive prizes. As part of a raffle, the main winners received, for example, a travel voucher worth 2,500 euros for an Aida cruise and a luxurious weekend on Lake Ammersee. The event was another great opportunity to celebrate the community and at the same time draw attention to the important projects that support endangered species.

Overall, it is clear that the Schweinfurt Wildlife Park is not only a place for relaxation, but also an important player in the protection of endangered species. The commitment of everyone involved helps to sustainably secure the future of the Mittelbeos and many other animals.
