Colorful festival in Starnberg: For democracy and diversity in the region!

The summer festival in the picturesque Bucentaurpark in Starnberg was a complete success and shined on August 11, 2025 with a colorful program and a clear message: democracy and diversity are in demand. Around 250 visitors came to take a stand against exclusion and discrimination, as the association “gemeinsam.demokratisch.bunt” announced.

Christiane Krinner, the association's chairwoman, emphasizes how important tolerance and inclusion of the queer community are. With her clear message, she appeals to those present to actively support a vibrant civil society. Even Elke Schubert from the Starnberg Greens confirmed the need to show a face for democracy and spoke of the importance of such events.

Arts and entertainment for everyone

A special highlight of the festival was the performance of drag queen Sasa Fornow, who thrilled visitors not only with her artistic talent, but also with her friendly manner. For Sasa, being portrayed as a fictional character is more than just an appearance; It takes her two hours for the complex make-up. In her performance she explains the art form of drag and answers questions from the audience.

The program left no room for boredom. In addition to the drag queen, bands like “Key for Two” and “Justyn Tyme” ensured a good atmosphere, while table magician Ben Popp amazed the audience with his tricks. Young talents from the region also had the opportunity to present their creative works at musical debuts and a poetry slam.

A celebration of community

Lilian Boehme, one of the visitors, emphasizes that the festival is an important statement for democracy. The positive atmosphere at the festival is reminiscent of the city festival from September 2023, which served as the inspiration for this event. There were also information opportunities through various organizations that support commitment to human rights and tolerance.

Thanks to the support of the city, district office and the Five Lakes Film Festival, which contributed to the realization of the summer festival. The association “gemeinsam.demokratisch.bunt”, which was only founded in 2024, continues to strive for open and respectful cooperation and with this festival showed that there are many people who are committed to these values.

The “Drag & Drop the System” project also shows that creativity can be used as a form of expression against queer hostility and discrimination. Workshops and the joint development of content are intended to ensure that the younger generation is also actively involved in the protest against discrimination, as shown on jff.de is to be read.
