Children learn to fish: exciting holiday program from the fishing club

Learning to fish and experiencing nature up close - this dream came to life for 36 children as part of the Stiftland e.V. fishing association's summer holiday program. An exciting program was offered this year with a clear goal in mind, namely to teach the young participants how to treat nature respectfully and the basics of fishing. The children were active both at the Liebenstein reservoir and at the Tirschenreuth city pond, where they were able to learn a lot under the guidance of youth representative Herbert Walenta and a dedicated team of helpers, as Oberpfalzecho reports.

At the first location, the Liebenstein reservoir, 21 children were enthusiastic about the event. Here they not only learned how to properly prepare fishing tackle, but also various fishing techniques. “Caution around the water” was an important point in the training and the children had the opportunity to catch real fish, which they cared for in a species-appropriate manner and treated gently. At the Tirschenreuth town pond, the group of 15 little anglers were busy training patience and observation skills. Here, too, the responsible handling of the catches was clearly conveyed.

Insight into nature

A highlight for all participants was the snack offered, which not only satisfied hunger but also underlined the sociable atmosphere. “We want to convey to the children the importance of careful use of natural resources,” explained Herbert Walenta. The children also had the opportunity to take their catch with them to cook for themselves or the family. This not only promotes an understanding of nature, but also a sustainable attitude when dealing with food. The Stiftland fishing association plans to repeat this success next year and continue children's fishing as part of the holiday program.

Similar programs are offered across Germany that present fishing not only as a sport, but also as a way to promote patience, skill and a respectful approach to nature. According to Reisemeise, the fishing camps for children in 2025 combine courses, leisure activities and relaxation. Both beginners and advanced users are addressed here. The camps promote social interaction and allow participants to make new friends.

Socializing and competition in fishing

The events are not only designed to learn how to fish, but also offer a sporting challenge. Popular fish species such as brown trout, pike and catfish are just a few examples of what the young anglers can catch. This allows each participant to test their skills in the competition, with trophies waiting for the biggest catch. Prizes and memorabilia also help motivate children while the fishing community speaks.

The close cooperation between volunteers also ensures that the program runs smoothly. Through their commitment, helpers like Anita Köppl, Markus Zeidler and many others ensure that the fun of fishing is not neglected. No matter how cautious the fish may react, the children's enthusiasm is even more lively, not only for fishing, but also for nature as such. With every cast they not only learn the art of fishing, but also exchange laughter and stories - an experience that lasts.

The program of the Stiftland fishing association impressively shows how important it is to sensitize young people to respectful treatment of nature and to make fishing an unforgettable time that lasts for a long time.
