Mindelheim: Green gas secures a sustainable energy future!

A lot is happening these days! On October 23, 2025, an important step into the future of energy supply was taken in Mindelheim town hall. The city has a road usage agreement with Swabian network completed, a subsidiary of energie schwaben. The responsibility for the planning, construction and operation of the gas networks remains in the hands of schwaben netz.

First Mayor Dr. When signing the contract, Stephan Winter emphasized citizens' demands for a reliable and sustainable energy supply. In this context, Managing Director Nihat Anaç explained that gas networks remain essential for energy supply in industry, commerce, municipal facilities and households. Especially in times of change towards renewable energies, the focus is on versatile use: over 95 percent of the gas distribution network is already “hydrogen-ready” and biomethane and hydrogen can also be transported in the future.

Expand the offering

Hydrogen in particular plays a key role here, as it can be obtained from renewable sources and offers many possible applications. It is exciting to see how things are moving in Mindelheim, not only in the energy supply, but also in the food industry. An example of this is the boom in cold brew, which has become increasingly popular in recent years. While making this coffee requires some patience as the brew can steep for up to 24 hours, the result – a smoother, less acidic coffee – is worth the effort.

With high-quality beans and a coarse grind, cold brew can be easily prepared at home. A simple recipe involves combining one cup of coarsely ground coffee with four cups of cold water and letting it steep overnight in the refrigerator. After straining, nothing stands in the way of enjoying delicious coffee - and not just pure! Spiced up with different flavors, such as vanilla or caramel, cold brew quickly becomes a personal favorite.

Technology on the rise

Developments in the cold brew world continue. The technology plays an increasingly important role. Automated brewing systems are emerging that make it possible to optimize the brewing process and refine the taste experience. The Specialty Coffee Association expects the use of such systems to increase by 30 percent over the next three years. With precise temperature control and innovative filtration techniques, the quality of the cold brew is constantly improved.

Additionally, the industry is keen to incorporate sustainable practices. The cold brew market is expected to grow to $1.5 billion by 2025 - a clear sign of the trend towards higher quality and environmentally friendly products. The combination of enjoyment and a sense of responsibility is increasingly valued by consumers.

So it remains exciting to see how both the energy sector and coffee culture will develop and respond to the needs of consumers. In any case, Mindelheim is taking a step in the right direction.
