Pokémon World Cup: 10-year-old Türkheimer fights for the title in California!

The Pokémon World Championship opens today in Anaheim, California, and Germany has a very special representative: ten-year-old Arne Schetters from Türkheim in the Unterallgäu district. It starts at 5:30 p.m. local time (8:30 a.m. our time) and the excitement is high. Thousands of fans are expected at the Anaheim Convention Center to watch the competition. Arne has qualified for this major event through outstanding performances in numerous local and international tournaments and, according to “The Pokémon Company”, is the best Pokémon trading card player in Germany under the age of 13.

Arne is not only taking part in the exciting competitions, he also has big goals: “I want to at least make it to the second day of the tournament,” he revealed with a broad smile. In the world junior rankings, he is ranked 42nd out of a total of 3,479 players – a remarkable achievement. The prize money is nothing to sneeze at: a total of over two million US dollars (approx. 1.7 million euros) will be distributed. The winner of each age group in the trading card game can look forward to $50,000, while 32nd place still gets $5,000.

World Cup in full swing

The Pokémon World Championship lasts three days and features competitions not only in the trading card game, but also in various Pokémon video games. Fans can look forward to a varied program as the competitions will be streamed live on platforms such as Twitch and YouTube. Arne will face the challenge of players from all over the world and the nervousness is palpable. “It’s just fun to compete against the best,” Arne continued.

As part of the Pokémon Presents, which streamed on July 22, 2025, there was also exciting news about upcoming games. Takato Utsunomiya, COO of The Pokémon Company, announced, among other things, “Pokémon Legends: Z-A,” which will be released on October 16, 2025. Players can look forward to new adventures in Lumiose City and discover Mega Dragonite as well as many new friends and rivals. In addition, “Pokémon Champions,” which will be released in 2026, will feature some innovative battle features.

An exciting year for Pokémon fans

It's an exciting year ahead for the Pokémon community. Numerous updates and new games have been announced, including “Pokémon Friends” – a puzzle game that is already available. Players can solve over 1,200 puzzles and create their own Pokémon plushies. In addition, all Pokémon fans can look forward to new animation projects, such as the “Pokémon Concierge” series, which will broadcast episodes from September 4, 2025.

Another highlight will be the Pokémon GO Fest on August 23rd and 24th, 2025, where the legendary Pokémon Eternatus will make its debut.

With all of these exciting developments, the Pokémon world will continue to move in the future, offering fans and players alike plenty of entertainment and challenges. Arne is taking the first step on his personal adventure today and we are excited to see how far he will make it in this World Championship.
