Rising unemployment in the Neu-Ulm district: A worrying trend!

In the Neu-Ulm district, the tense situation on the labor market is becoming increasingly noticeable. According to a current report from the Augsburger Allgemeine, a total of 3,290 people were registered as unemployed in June 2025. This means that the number of unemployed people rose by 22 people compared to the previous month and recorded an increase of 456 compared to the previous year - that means an increase of 16.1 percent compared to June 2024, when the unemployment rate was significantly lower at 2.7 percent.

The unemployment rate is now 3.1 percent, down 0.1 percent compared to May. Norbert Gehring, managing director of the Donauwörth Employment Agency, emphasizes that there is constant movement on the labor market. Newly reported jobs totaled 244 in June - 38 fewer than the previous month and 7 fewer than a year ago. There are currently 1,138 open positions available, with over 84 percent of them requiring a skilled level or higher. Unfortunately, only about 48 percent of unemployed people have the appropriate level of qualifications, which can make finding work significantly more difficult.

The regional differences within the district are also notable: While the unemployment rate in Ulm is 4.2 percent (previous year: 4.0 percent) and in Memmingen it is 3.7 percent (previous year: 3.6 percent), the Lower Allgäu remains relatively stable in comparison at 2.4 percent (previous year: 2.3 percent).

Challenges for the labor market

What could be the reason for the increasing numbers? The nationwide development of the labor market shows general challenges that are noticeable in many regions. According to the Federal Employment Agency website, data on unemployment and underemployment are of great importance for analyzing the current situation. Monthly reports and statistics provide comprehensive insight into the situation, including aspects of active job promotion and training market offerings. These offer useful information for job seekers and employers alike to improve contact with each other and find suitable positions.

Another difficulty is the shortage of skilled workers. Employers often have to search for a long time to find the right candidate, while on the other hand, many unemployed people do not have the necessary qualifications.

Despite the challenges, one should not lose hope. Those interested can regularly find out about current labor market developments, for example via the agency's monthly newsletter or via the central source of information, which represents the statistics from the Federal Employment Agency bmas.de and employment agency.de.

At a time when the economic climate is becoming harsher, it would be advisable to take a closer look and use all available resources to secure your own place in the working landscape.
