Great progress in Gunzenhausen: The new state office for schools is taking shape!

A new milestone in the educational infrastructure is being set in Gunzenhausen: the new building of the State Office for Schools. The topping-out ceremony was celebrated on November 4, 2025, a significant step on the way to a modern service center that will not only enrich Bavaria's educational landscape, but also the local working world.

The Bavarian construction project, which was commissioned by the Ministries of Construction and Culture, will create a total of around 200 new jobs. The construction, which is scheduled for completion at the beginning of 2027 and the users are scheduled to move in by mid-2027, will be financed with around 67.3 million euros. Divided into two cube-shaped parts of the building, the new state office is to be built on an area of around 8,200 square meters.

Innovative construction and environmentally friendly design

The building is being constructed using a wood hybrid construction method and, with its three and four floors above ground, not only offers space for the various departments, but also an underground car park with 55 parking spaces. Particularly noteworthy are the green roofs and facades, which make the project sustainable and modern. These measures help to ensure that the State Office for Schools is not only functional but also visually appealing.

Visits from high-ranking politicians such as Bavaria's Construction Minister Christian Bernreiter and Culture Minister Anna Stolz (represented by Ministerial Director Thomas Gloßner and Martin Wunsch) underline the importance of this project. The state office will take on a central role in administration and will carry out tasks in the areas of school staff, school financing, certificate recognition, school sports and digitalization. The examination office of the State Ministry for Education and Culture will also be housed here.

A look into the future

With the relocation of authorities to Gunzenhausen, a further step is being taken towards better networking of educational policy in Bavaria. The new state office promises to become an efficient, service-oriented center for Bavarian schools. Construction work is already underway, the shell of the north wing has largely been completed, while the concreting work in the south wing and the insulation work in the basement floors are currently being actively pursued.

In summary, this new building is not only an economic stimulus for Gunzenhausen, but also a sign for the future of education in Bavaria. The anticipation of the new state office is palpable, and the next steps are being followed with great curiosity and optimism.
