Mobility Festival in Hamburg: A festival for young transport explorers!
The major world congress on local public transport, the UITP Summit, began in Hamburg on June 14, 2025. Until Wednesday, the approximately 10,000 announced trade visitors can look forward to exciting topics and solutions relating to mobility. Transport Senator Anjes Tjarks from the Greens was optimistic about the high level of registrations and bookings for the exhibition hall, and described Hamburg as the “beacon of mobility” in Europe. Around 400 exhibitors are expected at the exhibition center, which should provide impressive insights and new contacts. The accompanying Mobility Festival, which takes place on Saturday at Jungfernstieg, is all the more exciting.
What can visitors expect at the Mobility Festival? On June 14th, from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., the event at Jungfernstieg will enable the various facets of mobility to be experienced interactively. The activities include, among other things, S-Bahn dispatch in the simulator and self-driving shuttle buses, which are provided by the Hochbahn and vhh mobility transport companies. For little visitors, the Sesame Street bus with Ernie and Bert will certainly show a smiling child's face. The traffic joker will also be on site and provide entertainment.
Technological innovations and sustainability
A central theme of the congress is the development of the transport sector and sustainable mobility systems. Experts from science, politics and business will discuss the seamless integration of various modes of transport as well as innovative mobility solutions such as autonomous driving and the networking of means of transport. The events not only offer lectures, but also networking opportunities that are intended to help local mobility drivers in Hamburg and the surrounding area to network. Participation is free for anyone interested, which represents a valuable opportunity to find out about the latest developments.
The UITP Summit app is also available and supports participants in personally planning their program. This app makes it possible to integrate sessions into the smartphone calendar, offers an interactive hall plan for exhibitors and lecture rooms and provides information about speakers and sponsors. The expectation that the event will attract over 10,000 participants from more than 100 countries makes it clear that Hamburg is a center for the mobility of the future, as the UITP report on the city documents.
The next edition of the UITP Summit will also take place in Hamburg in two years, ensuring that the city remains in the conversation about the future of urban mobility. The impressive number of 340 speakers and 70 sessions this year illustrates the high interest and relevance of the topics covered here. A special highlight is the keynote speech by Benita Matofska, a recognized figure in the field of sustainability and social innovation, who will take the stage in 2025.
Hamburg's thriving economy and innovative infrastructure are important factors that catapult the city to the forefront of European mobility. A clear sign that a lot is and will continue to happen here! If you want to get up to date when it comes to mobility, you've come to the right place.
