Hertha BSC remains winless: 0-0 against Darmstadt in the Opportunity Festival!

On August 24, 2025, an exciting duel between Darmstadt 98 and Hertha BSC took place in the Böllenfalltor stadium, which ended in a goalless draw. Both teams offered the fans a rich spectacle and numerous scoring opportunities, but ultimately the round in front of the square remained undefeated. The result leaves Herthan still waiting for their first win in the second division, while Darmstadt remains unbeaten.

The game started with a strong offensive from Berlin. Newcomer Maurice Krattenmacher in particular was a constant source of trouble. Not only did he fail with a shot that hit the post in the 19th minute, but he was also unlucky in the 14th minute when he slipped over the ball. The Darmstadt team also had their chance: Aleksander Vukotic checked the post in the 22nd minute and amazed the fans.

Opportunities abound

In the first half the game was dominated by a fireworks display of chances. In addition to Krattenmacher's notable actions, Hertha's Jon Thorsteinsson was also influential when he was stopped by Vukotic with a header on the line in the 39th minute. A goal from Kai Klefisch was disallowed for offside in the 24th minute, and Hertha also experienced another final whistle when Krattenmacher scored a goal in the 72nd minute that also didn't count. The referee teams had to be careful - there were a total of four aluminum hits in the game: two on each side.

After halftime the game shares were distributed a little more evenly. The two teams largely neutralized each other and scoring opportunities became rarer. However, Tjark Ernst, the Hertha goalkeeper, showed his skills and prevented several clear opportunities shortly before the end, including a header from Killian Corredor in the 84th minute. The final phase also brought some spectacular moments when Fabian Reese missed a last chance for the Berliners in the 90th + 8th minute.

Statements after the game

The outcome of the game was judged differently by those involved. Fabian Reese spoke of a bitter result and saw it as lost points. Coach Stefan Leitl was satisfied with his team's performance, but noted that the result did not do justice to the effort. Marcel Schuhen, the Darmstadt goalkeeper, also praised his team's defensive stability, which secured them both wins and draws in the last eight second division home games against Hertha.

After this draw, Hertha BSC is in 16th place with just two points, which is their weakest result this season. Darmstadt, on the other hand, slides to third place in the table with five points. The next test for the Berliners is on Friday against SV Elversberg, while Darmstadt has to play against 1. FC Kaiserslautern.

The game was not only a meeting of the teams, but also a great event with brilliant weather and a sold-out stadium. Spectators and players watched the action transfixed throughout the game, confirming that surprises can happen at any time in football.
