Federal police catch wanted sex offender at Frankfurt airport!

On October 4th, the federal police arrested a 50-year-old Paraguayan at Frankfurt am Main Airport who was wanted on the basis of a pre-trial arrest warrant from the Bonn district court. The suspect landed directly from São Paulo, Brazil, and was caught by officers “while still on the plane.” He is accused of committing 25 sexual offenses between 2008 and 2019, including against his own daughter and his brother's daughter. During the arrest, officers secured several electronic devices, including USB sticks, a laptop, a smartphone and a DVD, which are now being evaluated.

This arrest is another tragic incident that takes place against the backdrop of the current situation in Germany. According to a federal situation report by the BKA, sexual crimes against children and young people remain a serious problem. In 2024, 16,354 cases of sexual abuse among children were recorded, as well as 1,191 cases among adolescents, which is above the five-year average. In particular, cases of youth pornography rose by 8.5 percent to 9,601. These frightening figures make it clear that the pressure on the security authorities to shed light on the unreported nature of these crimes and to step up preventive measures is constantly increasing.

Investigations continue

After his arrest, the man was immediately brought before a magistrate and the investigation against him is ongoing. It is hoped that the analysis of the confiscated items will provide information about other possible crimes and that further victims can be identified. In this context, the Federal Police have emphasized that they have tacklers to counteract such serious crimes and to protect those under their protection.

In addition, the BKA provided information about the constantly increasing challenges associated with sexual assaults. Perpetrators often use the Internet to establish contact with minors via social networks. The prevention campaign #dontsendit is intended to encourage children and young people to be careful with intimate content and to warn about the dangers of sextortion and cybergrooming.

The high volume of suspected cases, a total of 205,728 reports in 2024, makes it clear how important it is not only to take criminal action against perpetrators, but also to take preventative measures. Offers of help for those affected are available and can be accessed via the police and the BKA website.
