A move from Hugo Ekitiké (23) is causing a stir in Cologne and beyond. The promising striker, who currently plays for Eintracht Frankfurt, is about to move to traditional club Liverpool. At his last appearance in Germany, Ekitiké was greeted by around 10,000 fans with cheerful shouts of “Heki”, even though he was not on the pitch himself. Instead, he warmed up behind the goal for 30 minutes, but did not play a minute due to fears of injury.
The friendly match between Eintracht Frankfurt and FSV Frankfurt, in which he was hailed as a hero, ended with mixed feelings. Aurèlio Buta (28) scored the first goal of the season in the 2nd minute. But Buta could also change clubs soon because Union Berlin is very interested in him. Overall, the game was tough, especially the strikers Elye Wahi, Michy Batshuayi and Jonathan Burkardt had a hard time. According to a report by liverpool.com Liverpool has already reached an agreement with Frankfurt for the transfer of Ekitiké. Another exciting detail is that Liverpool beat Newcastle United's offer for Ekitiké. Newcastle had offered a sum of 70 million pounds (around $93.8 million), but Frankfurt rejected this. Liverpool are now looking to negotiate the price under the £86.5 million ($115.9 million) release clause. It also deserves special attention that Manchester United are also showing interest in the talented Frenchman.
A look into the future
Ekitiké scored an impressive 22 goals last season and could now prove himself on the international stage. In five appearances for France's U21s, he scored five goals, a sign of his potential. A transfer to Liverpool could also jeopardize the opportunity for Darwin Núñez, who is being watched by numerous clubs in Italy and Saudi Arabia.
As the third entry from the Bundesliga this season, after Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, Liverpool are showing ambitious plans for the challenges ahead.
