Storm chaos in Frankfurt: Fire brigade fights against storm damage!

The summer holidays in Frankfurt started with an inglorious change in the weather. Instead of sunbathing and relaxing vacation time, thunderstorms, storms and heavy rain put the fire departments on alert in several ways. As t-online reports, the emergency services had to go out on a double-digit number of missions in the Main metropolis this weekend, especially due to fallen trees. A fallen tree scaffolding also caused trouble on the A5 motorway, but it was quickly removed so that the road could be reopened.

The storm front moved from the southwest over Hesse on Sunday afternoon and also caused the Christopher Street Day in Frankfurt to be interrupted. Severe thunderstorms and high wind speeds of up to 110 km/h were on the weather map, and the fire brigade was called upon in various parts of the city. According to Hessenschau, there were also around 40 storm operations in Wiesbaden, which also focused on fallen trees and covered roofs. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far. In Borken a tree fell on a residential building; Here too, there were no personal injuries.

Outlook for the coming week

The German Weather Service (DWD) warns of heavy rain on Monday night, which could reach up to 40 liters per square meter. Further gusts of up to 100 km/h are expected, including the possibility of hail. On Monday afternoon, strong winds and occasional showers can be expected again, as the meteorologists from Unwetterzentrale report. Tuesday will also be characterized by changeable weather with further periods of showers and thunderstorms.

As meteorologist Niko Renkosik explains, Hesse is currently surrounded by low pressure areas, the most active of which is “Isaac”. People in the country can expect a volatile week before the rain front retreats over Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria and the risk of thunderstorms increases again on Thursday.

The weather situation is far from stable and our eyes remain open to further unpleasant weather conditions. Despite the adverse circumstances, the people of Cologne are hoping for the weather to calm down soon and a return to summer conditions.
